URGENT NEED!

BON BINI - Genetic Issues Puppy
Critical Care - Vet Bill

7 - 26 - 10 PM I got a email from my rescue friend Mari who works with the Brownwood shelter stating, QUOTE: This little bitty fellow is 6 months old and was brought to the shelter by a lady who bought him from a breeder. She told them she just didn't want him anymore. I guess since he wasn't "perfect" he needed to be thrown away. I just hate people. Laura at the shelter says that he appears to have bowed back legs....probably inbred. Would you take him. HE is precious. END OF QUOTE.

This is what Jim who picked him up has to say about him, QUOTE: Oh Lordy, Give me strength - this is the most darling 4-pound bundle of fun and frivolity you can imagine. He came up from Brownwood with a man named Bob, to the Dallas SPCA.

The moment I saw this tiny little guy, I was in love - the wall eyes and diminutive frame bely how much energy this little dude has! He is allegedly 6 months old, but Wanda said she'd have to have Dr. Cindy verify, since he is truly petite. He was an owner surrender though I don't have the details.

I brought him home with me for a spell before Wanda was to call on her way from the Fort Worth shelter to the Half Price Books where we were going to meet. It was hysterical watching him try to box and bitey-face with all the big Furkids, who must've looked like giants to him, but they sure didn't faze him or quell his need to dominate!

One thing - he has a very large male appendage, and it appears that it is always out and dangling - while this is cute, it might be indicative of some medical condition, so Wanda will try to lube it up and see if it retracts, or maybe Dr. Cindy will have to do something to fix it. He had already been neutered, so he'd be shooting blanks even so...

Jim END OF QUOTE

Wanda's first report on Bon Bini - Bon Bini – 3.8 lbs 6 months Dr. Cindy says this little guy looks like he has been starved and that may be part of why he is so little. He is in BAD SHAPE! Bent legs and both his patellas are out. She isn’t going to do anything surgically to him until we can get some weight on him and get him in better shape. I still think he looks like he has scurvy or rickets. Since he is so young with his patellas in such bad shape, this is one that we may see if we can fundraise while I am fattening him up to get his knees fixed. He will be with me for several months and I am not sending him out until I am comfortable about it.

If you would like to contribute to Bon Bini's care and vet bill, please feel free to use paypal for your payment or If you want to send a donation directly to our vet send to:

8 - 2- 10 - I dropped Bon Bini off at Dr. Shelly’s as she is where I Like to drop my sick puppies as they have lots of vet techs that will hover over them. Plus I am taking about 12 dogs to see Dr. Cindy and will have her tied up. He just wasn’t eating or drinking and getting skinnier than he already was. I been syringing him water and giving him nutrical. I thought he was dehydrating so I took him in. Better to be safe than sorry when it is a puppy in this bad a shape. Dr. Pirelle (a new one I haven’t seen before) said that as small as he was and him being in such poor shape that it was a good thing as she wanted to put him on IV fluids and run some blood tests. She also said that his thighbones were bent and both patellas were out because of it. She said that surgery when he was older and in much better health might be an option for that issue. We will worry about that after we deal with his conditions. I will check on him tomorrow and see if they have found out anything. I am hoping that he will perk up and feel better soon.  He is the cutest patootest and Janice who has adopted several dogs from me is interested in adopting him. So I am hoping that he gets better.

8 - 4- 109 - Just got off the phone with Dr. Penny. Bon Bini is holding his own but is a very sick little boy.

Blood work showed slightly skewed levels due to him being so starved and run down but nothing conclusive as to what is going on with him. He doesn’t have pneumonia. She thinks that he is sick because he has been starved and doesn’t have the strength/immunity left to fight having a cold and that cold is doing a number on a dog that is already very compromised healthwise.

His veins keep collapsing so she can’t get an IV to stay in him, so she is giving him fluids under the skin. He is on antibiotics. They will continue that regimen.

He eats sometimes and doesn’t others and just looks at them like he did me here. That just looking at me when I gave him food was driving me nuts. Which was why I was giving him nutrical to make sure he was getting something in there. My opinion is that he is improving slightly cause he had gotten to where he wouldn’t eat at all here at my house and he is eating a bit there.

He will stay at the vets until he is feeling a lot better and eating well. I don’t look to get him back until maybe after the weekend. I don’t even want to know what that bill is gonna be. ;) I just told her to do what she can for him and if she needs to run tests to run them. I don’t want to lose a puppy if I can keep him alive.

I will be busy with the Arkansas dogs tomorrow on and have told her that I won’t be pestering her, but if he takes a turn for the worse or is ready to come home to give me a holler.

8 - 7- 10 - Just got off the phone from talking with DR. Penny. She says that Bon Bini is better as he will get up and move to the front of the cage occasionally versus just laying there like he was. He still has a snotty nose, but it is clear and not yellow or green. He is still on antibiotics. He will eat, but they have to hand feed him, which worries them a little. But she said if I had someone to hand feed him he could come home. I told her that I would prefer that he stay with them until Monday or Tuesday since I am working with the Arkansas seizure dogs this weekend. Hopefully, by then he will be eating on his own as his appetite will have picked up as he feels better. But if not, I may opt to have him stay longer. She mentioned his previous high white cell count. I know they try to save me money since I am a rescue, but I told her if she thinks she needs to pull more blood work to go ahead and do so. She did say that the lack of moving around a lot may be due to his genetic deformities and luxating patellas in his back legs. Only time will tell with that. She did say that he was a lot perkier than he was. I am pleased as I was really worried about him. So that is it for this edition of The Bon Bini report. ;)

8 - 9- 10 -Dr. Baird one of the long time doctors at Dr. Shelly’s called me. She sounded really upset. I think like everyone who met Bon Bini, she had gotten attached to the sweet little tyke. She told me that our puppy Bon Bini has passed away. Bon Bini was eating when being hand fed but not eating by himself. He was still getting his sub q fluids. They had been encouraged because he had drank some water by himself and gotten up and walked to the front of his cage which was why they were gonna let me take him home on Saturday if I had someone who could hand feed him. Then He had a good poop in the morning and then that evening he had a runny poop. After that he just passed away in his sleep. Sometimes they rally and we think they are getting better and then they die on us.

Dr. Baird thinks Bon Bini’s death had something to do with his bad genetic issues as there were more than one external issue like his penis, bowed legs, luxating patellas and rickety/scurvy looking curved spine as well as being so small at 6 months. She believes that he might have had a liver shunt or something else going on in there that wasn’t showing on tests. I asked her how much it would cost us to do a necropsy to see what was going on with him. She told me that they would do a necropsy at no charge for us since this was an unusual case and I am sure our bill for him is sky high already. I am thinking she is going to use the necropsy results as a learning experience so if she sees something like this again she will know what might help the next puppy to live.

I know that Bon Bini got lots of love and care with the staff at Dr. Shelly’s as they are all very caring people and genuinely love the dogs. So I know he was surrounded by love with them. Even though I know that Bon Bini is in a better place, I just wish that we had gotten him earlier so we could possibly have saved him. But sometimes no matter what you do you cannot save them. It is a fact I have learned to live with. I don’t like it, but… I deal with it. I didn’t have him long, but he had me wrapped around his little paw. He was a sweet loving little puppy that deserved a chance at a loving home who would have spoiled him rotten.

God Speed, my little Bon Bini, my Boxer Bruce will keep you company cause he loved his babies and I will see you again one day.

Please folks, we need funds to pay his bill and the bill of several other dogs that have run up big bills and didn't make it. Please donate. Thank you.

As always, ABTR appreciates your continued support of our rescue efforts. Without your generosity and support, we could not have helped as many dogs as we have over the years. :) Thank you so very much. Wanda

We at American Boston Terrier Rescue have no ongoing sponsers, subsidies, grants or other steady supporter paying for the vetting care of the rescue dogs. All vet bills, dog food and anything else the dogs need are paid for from donations, adoption donations and my own pocketbook. Any Donations are always appreciated.

ABTR is very grateful for the generous show of support for this little baby boy. Your prayers are so appreciated as well as the donations for her vet care. All donations raised in excess of Bon Bini's expenses will be used for the care of the many other dogs in our rescue program like the older dogs such as Andes, Gerties, Peeps, Old Fitzgerald, and Mr. Magoo who will probalby never be adopted, but still need our love, vet care, dog food and Prayers. Thank you again for your donations and support.
