Abbi's Tropical Delight Boston
Adopted
Female Weight: 20-24 lbs Age: 2-4 years Stray at Burleson shelter Good Markings - Black and White Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots. Heartworm/Lyme/Erlichia: Negative Spayed Good with cats? Not Tested Good with children? Not Tested Good with other dogs? Good with all dogs met so far Housetrained? Seems to be trained to the doggie door Cratetrained? No, does not like the crate Special needs: None have been determined at this time!

More information:
Jim's note: Picked up this girl at the Burleson shelter. Her name at the shelter was Ruby, though of course that has now changed to Abbi's Tropical Delight. Abbi does seem to suit her well.
She was shedding quite a lot, as you can see in the photos, and her coat is rather dull, so she needs some quality food and nutrition to look her best. She does have the cutest corkscrew tail and her whole hind end wriggles with happiness when you pay her attention.
The good news is that she's heartworm negative - yay!. She seems to be an adult, I would guess in the 3 to 4 range, but of course defer to the experts for a better estimation.
I had left the male from Waco loose in the car, so I crated the girl. That was a mistake. She was NOT happy to be in that crate and did her best screeching monkey impression for quite a spell. I should have crated the mellow male and left her loose, where I'm sure she'd be a great co-pilot. Not sure if she's anti-crate generally, or if it was just the upheaval of going from a shelter situation to a small crate so soon.
Leighann's note: I transported the burleson girl after an exchange with Jim. She was a bit nervous in the car, but if had a hand on her, she was fine. She looks like she's been bred few times. Long toenails, almost bald hiney. She does not like the crate! Period! She will hollar and make it known. She has an underbite and her front bottom teeth have lots of character.
Wanda's note: Abbi is a darling. Poor baby has a naked butt probably from flea or food allergies as she was still scratching when she got here. But being on a grainfree food and having her trifexis so she is flea free has stopped the scratching thank goodness! She is good with the other dogs and loves attention. she is sweet as can be. She wants to make you happy. Abbi goes in and out the doggie door like a pro. This is a very nice dog and her hair on her butt should grow back in about 2 or 3 months. You will love her.

Not Tested Good with children? Not Tested Good with other dogs? Good with all dogs met so far Housetrained? Seems to be trained to the Doggie door Cratetrained? yes Special needs: None
|
More information:
This boy was owner surrendered to the Waco humane society along with his 3 mixed breed puppies. They were surrendered because "they couldn't afford them".
This poor boy had a cherry eye, but that has been taken care of. Angus is very affectionate and wants to please. He is a nice guy who deserves someone to love him for who he is and not how he looks. He learns fast and knows his new name. He can be a bit pushy for some dogs, but does seem to be ok with most dogs he has met so far.

Alabazam Boston
Adopted
Male Weight: 23.4 Age: 2 years Stray at the Little Elm shelter Good Markings = Black and White Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots. Heartworm/Lyme/Erlichia: Negative! Neutered Good with cats? OK and shows no interest in the cats Good with children? Met Toddlers and seems ok with them Good with other dogs? Good with all dogs met so far Housetrained? Seems to be trained to the doggie door. Cratetrained? yes Special needs: None have been determined at this time.
|
More information:
This boy was a stray at the Little Elm shelter and no one came looking for him. Which is a great pity as he is a wonderful dog.
As you can see in the pix that Alabazam is good with other dogs. To me he looks like he is saying oh yuck boxer kisses. Zam is good in the crate and likes to ride in the car. He is well behaved and loves attention. He seems to be housebroken to the doggie door.
Zam has a bit longer nose than most Bostons, but he is still a good looking dog. He has a very glossy black coat. Someone must have loved him because he was well fed and not heartworm positive.
This boy has a nice personality. He is not bouncing off the wall and I consider him fairly laid back for a Boston. Zam loves attention and is just a good boy needing a place to call home.

Aladdin Sane Boston
Adopted
Male Weight: 13 lbs Age: 1-4 years Stray at Grandbury Mismarked - Half white faced Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots. Heartworm/Lyme/Erlichia: Negative! Neutered Good with cats? Not Tested Good with children? Not Tested Good with other dogs? Good with all dogs met so far Housetrained? Working on it! Cratetrained? Ok in crate Special needs: None have been determined at this time
|
More information:
Wanda's note: Aladdin was caught in a live trap out in the country and taken to the shelter. Skin and hair issues are looking better.
Laddie's foster Mom, Martha says: I call him Laddie or Smidge. Laddie is young and active and still acts very puppyish. One of his favorite games is to wrestle with my hand and arm. For a smaller Boston he has a great deal of stamina and shows no fear when playing with my rough and tumble Rocky.
He enjoys going with us on our daily mile walk; though he HATES it when the leash catches on his stubby little tail and he will stop cold and try to bite the leash. I suspect that Aladdin has been on walks before he came to foster care as someone has taught him to sit when we stop at corners to check for traffic. Laddie quickly learned to sit for treats and especially likes the little pieces of turkey hotdog I hid his medication in when he first came to stay with me.
Laddie will de-stuff a soft toy almost as fast as Rocky does. He does love the fleece (unstuffed)toy I bought and plays tug with it as well as with the long fleece braid. Laddie growls and growls and it sounds like war but it just means the boys are playing. Laddie plays with the hard rubber pull and chew toys and really enjoys a hoof or antler to chew on.
Laddie has learned to use the doggie door into the back yard and to do his bathroom business outside and not inside. Laddie now sleeps through the night and wants to sleep lying against my legs. First thing in the morning I walk him to the doggie door and tell him OUT. Like any kid, if it is wet he’ll try to come back in, but I stand by the door and watch to make sure that he takes care of his business.
Laddie is VERY vocal and will talk to Rocky if he has a toy that Laddie has decided is his. If you tell him NO he’ll lower his bark and it sound like he is talking back to you.
If you are looking for an active, happy BT and have time to play with and walk him Aladdin is the boy for you. He really enjoys being with other dogs and will invite them to play.

Albermarle Fizz Yorkie
Adopted
Female Weight: 6.6 lbs Age: 9 months OS through an emergency vet clinic Good Markings Black and Tan Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots. Heartworm/Lyme/Erlichia: Negative!!! Spayed Good with cats? Not Tested Good with children? Not Tested Good with other dogs? Not Tested Housetrained? Injured, can't tell Cratetrained? Yes Special needs: BROKEN LEG
|
More information:
Puppy fell from 3rd story balcony. Lucky to be alive. Broke her left leg in the growth plate in the knee. Currently at ABTR's Vets office.
ER fees were $501 with just xrays, pain meds and care. After xrays showed she was not as severly injured as we had feared, I opted to have them minister to the pain so that I could take her to my vet for treatment and not pay the high costs of a ER vet for the same work my vet can do.
UPDATE: Her name was Marley (who names a girl dog Marley after the old fart ghost in Scrooge?Sheesh.) and we already have a Marley here so I changed it to Albermarle Fizz, that is much more feminine in my opinion. She is 9 months old and weighs a whole 6.6 lbs. She fell from a 3rd floor balcony. She was lucky that she didn’t break her neck or her back and die instantly. She has been doped to the gills all weekend. I dropped her at Dr. Cindy’s today.
She has a really bad break in the knee on the left side where it is almost impossible to anchor anything to in the growth plate and her little bones were so tiny that putting a pin in it might bust up the bone more than it already is. Dr. Cindy says she will refer to a specialist so they could put a plate in if we want her to, but the outcome would probably be pretty much the same as what it might be if we splinted it instead and she would have all the pain from the surgery to go through. It is just a bad break in a very bad place.
There are 3 possible outcomes whether we do surgery on the leg or not, she can regain all her mobility and the leg operate like normal, she can have limited mobility with her leg being slightly stiff, or the joint can freezup and the leg can go totally stiff. So… I told her I wanted to do the splint with pain meds instead of taking her to the specialist and having surgery done on the poor lil thang. Sometimes surgery is not the best way to go in my opinion and they will heal up better without it. We have done surgery on legs/hips where the dog was worse off after surgery than before it with the bone broken. Where this is, I think that it will heal ok as it is one line break and not multiple fracturs all with more than one break in the area like what our little girl who got hit by a car had and she really needed surgery.
Our lil girl is not happy with her cast/splint and she doesn't do a lot of walking, but she doesn't need to be moving the leg so we are letting her take it easy for now.
I do have an adopter interested in this little one when she gets well. Thank you.

Arkansas HSUS seizure dogs Bostons
Adopted
Male Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots. Neutered Housetrained? NO, THEY WERE BREEDING DOGS Special needs: SKIN ISSUES
|
More information:
URGENT**** URGENT****URGENT
Rob has finished our page for these babies with details.
ARKANSAS HSUS STORY
There are 9 dogs total instead of 10. 4 females and one male.
Our php program autoloads the spayed/neutered, updated on shots because all dogs are spayed and neutered and updated on shots before they are adopted out and if I don't select gender it will say male. So please disregard that.
UPDATE: 9/23/10 Orange Velvet, Orange Tic Tac, Orange Truffle Mocah and Orange Oscar are all vetted and ready to be adopted. I will try and get them updated soon.
Orange Safari, Orange Jeff and Orange Surprise went on the transport this week to our sister rescue FOHA. So if you are interested in those 3, please contact them for adoption information.
UPDATE: 9/10/10 - We have several of these babies vetted and ready for adoption. Orange Kiss and Orange Rumbler have been adopted.
Orange Oscar and Orange Truffle Mocha who are both very sweet friendly dogs were vetted yestereday. So they are ready to be adopted. See their pix by clicking on the see dogs here on the page at the link above.
Orange Jeff and Orange Safari were vetted earlier in the week and I will adopt them out to the right person, but both of these are scared little boys and will need someone who is willing to work with them to socialize and learn to be loving dogs.
Orange TicTac and Orange Velvet need to be spay/neutered next week, then they will be ready to go.
Orange Surprise was just spayed, but she had a bit of a complication and is oozy so we are not gonna put her up yet for adoption yet as I want to watch her and be sure that all will be well with her.
So if you want to help and adopt one of these sweet seized by the law babies, please put in your app!!!!
WE NEED DONATIONS!!! WE have been taking in 6 to 10 dogs a week for months and our vet bill is sky high. Our adoption donations are not covering it. Please, donate!!!

Elaine's note to me about this boy, does she know me or what? QUOTE: Here is the poor old senior that is a stray at TLAC today. I took him a sweater (figured he would not care if it was pink) since it is pretty cold here now. He appears to be blind (eyes are
dried out and he bumps into things occasionally) and perhaps deaf. He also has a tumor on the abdomen next to his penis. Wanda, I assume we are taking him?
This is what Jim has to say about Bakkus, QUOTE: Bakkus is the poor old gent who is very skinny, has darling frosty brows, bad sniffles and sneezes, and has the bad eyes and probably
hard of hearing or deaf. He rode shotgun with me and was such a sweet
companion. He liked having his ears scratched and basically napped and
viewed scenery the whole way.
Wanda's notes: This poor skinny old man was a stray! Who the heck would let their sweet OLD man in this shape out to wander around by himself in the cold? ARRRGHHH!!!
I think he is older than the 10 years that the shelter put on his paperwork. I think he is 12-14. Right now he is not in good enough shape for me to have Dr. Cindy do any kind of surgery on him.
He is pretty much blind, might be able to see shadows as he does manage to get up on the foot stool and into the dog beds alright. I am not sure about his hearing sometimes I think he is deaf and others I think he can hear me. This old boy is rickety and not in good shape. He came in sick and we are trying to get that under control.
I am making him comfortable, medicating him and giving him attention. I am not going to put this old man through surgery for the tumor unless he gains some weight and looks much better than he does as right now I honestly don't think that he is in good enough shape to survive the surgery.
He looks better in the pix due to the sweater than he does in real life. So, we are not subjecting him to a bunch of tests until he gains a bit of weight as he has the old man skinnies.
Unfortunatley, not many folks want to adopt an old dog who just wants to sleep, eat and get a bit of attention so I imagine he will be with me until he passes.
ABTR will still need donations for his care until he either passes or he gains some weight and we can put him into surgery with the expectation that he will actually survive the surgery. Right now I am trying to get him over the snots which is out first priority.

Be Sweet Boston Boxer Mix - BOXTON a Designer dog
Adopted
Female Weight: 31.7 Age: 1-4 years Stray at Fort Worth Shelter Good Markings - Black Brindle and white Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots. Heartworm/Lyme/Erlichia: Negative! Spayed Good with cats? Not Tested Good with children? Not Tested Good with other dogs? Good with all dogs met so far Housetrained? Seems to be trained to the doggie door Cratetrained? yes Special needs: None have been determined at this time
|
More information:
I got a plea from my friend Ginger the ACO at Fort Worth stating, QUOTE: The one that needs rescued most might be a mix, I just can't tell on this one. She is getting a URI. END OF QUOTE
At this time, ABTR is not taking mixes, but when Ginger knows that and still asks me to take a mix, generally that means it is a REALLY good dog and deserves to be rescued.
When I picked her up, you could tell she was so happy to be getting out of there and she just pranced along on the leash with Ginger. She rode well on the way home in the crate, not a peep out of her.
Once we were home, she greeted the other dogs like long lost friends and settled in as if she had always been here. I named her Be Sweet as she is a sweetheart. I am calling her Sweetie cause that is what she is.
Sweetie loves to lay at my feet when I am on the computer and she makes a great foot warmer. I rub my feel all along her belly and she just loves the attention. Sweetie follows me everywhere and is always happy for a pet or any kind of attention. She will come if she is 2 foot away and you say Sweetie.
Her one bad habit is she does rear up on you, but she is getting better about that cause I tell her "off", push her feet down and ignore her. She then just bumps up against my leg hoping for attention.
This poor girl is in sad shape, I am guessing she should weighs around 33-35 lbs as she is skinny. She was in heat when I picked her up so we had to wait for that to go away for her to be spayed.
Sweetie looks like a Boston with a long square nose. She is a pretty dog on the inside as well as the outside. If you are looking for a more substansial, very loving Boston, then Sweetie is the one for you.

More information:
This man started looking for a good place for his Beau as soon as he knew he would have to go to a nursing home. He had a rescue friend who put him in touch with ABTR about 6-8 months ago before ABTR stopped taking owner surrenders. At that time, I told him I would take his dog after he was accepted to his nursing home. I knew he would be heartbroken when he had to let his dog go and if he was at home alone until he had to go to the nursing home it would depress him, so I told him we would wait and take him when the plans for the move were finalized. This way the dog got to stay with his Daddy as long as possible. The nursing home just now accepted him. How is that for service? Since I said I would take him months ago, I took his dog even though we are NOT taking owner surrenders at this time.
Here is what Martha Beau's foster momma has to say, QUOTE: Beau is an owner surrender Boston male. He comes to ABTR with some vet records. Beau’s birth date is 2/16/2004 so he will be 7 years old on his next birthday. On his last vet visit he weighed 31 lbs. He is well muscled and looks just great.
When I spoke to Mr. Miller yesterday told me that they have had Beau since he was a puppy. He also said that Beau is high energy and will jump on me when we first meet, and that Beau has not had any interaction with other dogs and may not do well with them. Beau is used to being top dog in his household. Beau is not used to children. I picked up Beau this morning, he did indeed jump on me and bark but quickly came around for pets and some play with his ball. I spent some time with the Miller’s (father and son) and let his owner take time to say good bye. Mr. Miller is moving to an assisted care facility and they
do not allow pets.
Beau did a little console surfing on the drive home and had whined some. He explored the garage and did very well meeting Bongo and Ginger. No aggression at all. Ginger is being her
normal alpha female pain in the rear but she is coming around.
Beau is absolutely beautiful and is going to make someone a very nice family member. I think he will do well with older children.
UPDATE: So for it is looking good for me to foster him. He is up to date on his shots and doesn't get aggressive when Ginger pushes him around. I ran home for lunch to check on things and he even tried to steal a toy from HRH when I was throwing toys for the dogs.
My roommate Phil really really likes him. Phil had moved Beau's bed into his room so Beau could nap
without being bothered by HRH, probably not necessary as Ginger usually retires to my bed when I'm not home, but heck... I'm not going to discourage him. Beau is very well mannered.
So far Beau hasn't eaten anything. I'll try to feed him the Beneful that was given to me in his own bowl tonight. I can't leave it out as I once tried the soft version for Ginger
and it made her throw up.
UPDATE: Mr. Miller gave me Beau's food bowl, so when I fed everyone last night I used the old plastic bowl for Beau was familiar with and put the soft food in the water side and his Beneful in the other side. He ate all the soft food first and then ate about 1/2 the
Beneful. Mr. Miller said he was used to eating only once a day about supper time.
Since my schedule is so different from his, Beau is being offered food about 11am and about 10 pm. And now that Buddy is gone the crunchies are out all day long again. Beau is eating and drinking.
Beau learned this morning that if you hesitate to eat the treat you are offered someone else (Bongo) will swoop in and eat it for you. The second treat I offered got taken right
away and not dropped onto the floor to be looked at.
Beau is sporting a lavender fleece wrap this morning; Ginger's velcro under the belly ones are the only ones that fit this husky boy. Bud's DGG size Med fleeces are too small for him.. He is a well muscled big boy. And an absolute doll.
Update: Beau snapped at the vet .... he did very well with the vet techs with blood drawing and fecal and with getting microchipped and shots, let the vet look into his ears and mouth. But after it was all over and he was on the floor he snapped at the vet when she bent down to pet him. It was probably extreme stress and the fact that she reached down toward the top of his head. She left the room and came back a couple of times and he never snapped again but acted head shy... I'd say NO children as they can be stressful. I'd noticed in the past that if I was standing up and reached down over him to pet his head he'd pull away but he never snapped. (I asked Phil and he said he'd never snapped at him either) Beau seems fine if I pet his head when seated or at his level.
He also growls when I pick him up to either put him on the bed or take him off of it. He did that when I put him up on the table the second time.... I've been picking him up often to get him used to it. I suspect that Mr. Miller never picked him up (he is heavy) so he isn't used to being touched that way. I've also been touching him all over whenever I can to get him used to that too.
The vet also mentioned that his fur is very sparse on the back of his legs and along his sides. She said it could be thyroid or nutrition. I told her what he'd been eating (beneful) and that I had him transitioned over to TOTW... she said it was really too soon to tell.
Wanda's note: I would like to place Beau in an adult home that understands that he lived with an elderly gentleman his whole life and may have a few quirks. NOTE: be careful at the vet and the over the head touch is an issue a lot of dogs are weird about.

Heartworm/Lyme/Erlichia: Not tested yet, still needs to be vetted Spayed Good with cats? Ok with cats that do not run! Good with children? Good with ALL kids met so far Good with other dogs? Good with all dogs met so far Housetrained? Yes per owner Cratetrained? Yes Special needs: None determined at this time
|
More information:
I got a call from a all breed rescue group asking me if I would take an owner surrender or the owners were gonna take this dog and dump it at the shelter the next day cause they were MOVING! What a stupid reason to get rid of a dog, especially this dog as she is WONDERFUL!
Lady was raised with kids and the owner had a 3 year old and a 7 year old. The owner said Lady was good with all the kids she had been around. Lady is a well behaved housebroken girl. She does have a touch of separation anxiety and will cry at the gate.
She was very interested in cats when she first got here as she hadn't been around any so I put her down as no cats. But she likes my husband and he has the cats back in his area of the house so she has gotten used to them and sleeps up on his bed with them. So she is ok with our cats who are not afraid of dogs.
Lady knows how to sit and is very responsive to what you want her to do. She knows stay, come and loves to go for rides. She is a very nice dog who had an owner that didn't love her enough to keep her. Lady's adopter is gonna be very pleased with this sweetheart.

Bellini Martini Boston
Adopted
Female Weight: 18-20 lbs No Onwer Found Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots. Spayed Good with cats? OK and shows no interest in the cats Good with children? Not Tested Good with other dogs? Good with all dogs met so far

More information:
This is Bellini Martini a sweet timid little female Boston with the most gorgeous face. She was found in Fort Worth by a kind gentleman who put up flyers, registered her being found with the shelters down there and no one came to claim her. The gentleman was quite upset that he couldn’t find her puppies, but … after looking for them for hours he had to give up. He asked if we could help her. Naturally I said yes.
Bellini is good with other dogs and good with cats as well. She pretty much ignored them when placed in the room with them. She is a timid little girl and will hide out under something until she feels safe. Then she will come out for a little attention. I feel the best household for this girl is a very quiet one without much hubbub. She loves to get petted and explore the yard. With the right owner this little one will earn her place within her people’s heart.
She is about 1-3 years old, 18-20 lbs and is just a gorgeous girl.

More information:
Why this boy's owners did not come for him, I have no idea. This is one of the most gorgeous dogs I have ever seen. He has been well cared for as he is not skinny like so many we get into our rescue. HE is loving and well behaved. Bertie acts like he has been my dog forever. Came out of the shelter as if he was my best friend and hopped right in the van as if he had done it all the time. He hopped right in the crate and was a very good boy.
He is good with the outside cats that don't run, but if the other dogs start chasing he is gonna chase after them too. So he can go either way on cats.
Bertie just wants to please you. He will hop right up in your lap and cuddle. He is a very nice dog and whoever gets him are going to think they hit the jackpot cause they did. This dog is GREAT!

Bess Boston/Boxer Mix -designer dog name Boxton
Adopted
Female Weight: 42 ;bs Age: 2-4 years Stray at Fort Worth Shelter LOOKS LIKE A SMALL BLACK BOXER Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots. Heartworm/Lyme/Erlichia: Negative!!! Spayed Good with cats? NO CATS! Good with children? Not Tested Good with other dogs? Good with all dogs met so far Housetrained? Yes to the doggie door Cratetrained? No Special needs: None
|
More information:
Back in September we got this sweet Boxton from the Fort Worth Shelter. She was a stray and in fairly rough shape as you can see by the first 2 photos. Her coat was dull, she was thin and had hair loss from neglect and fleas.
I was very smitten with her and decided not to put her on the webpages until I got her all well and looking good just in case I wanted to keep her as I LOVE this mix of my 2 favorite breeds. As you can tell she is black like a Boston and not quite as big as a Boxer. She has the boston back legs and the shorter Boston nose instead of the Boxers, but other than that she looks just like a small black boxer. AS you can see by the last photo Bess has gained weight, her coat is nice and shiny as well as filled back in.
Bess is a really nice dog who loves to play with my Boxer Teddy. She can be a little rough playing with very small dogs, so she should go with a dog more her size.
NO CATS for her as she likes to chase them and might would hurt one.
Bess loves attention although you can tell that at one point in her life someone was mean to her. She is sensitive, when she hears no she stops what she is doing, scrunches down and backs off. She is smart too. When I got her she had no manners and was not housebroken. She now knows how to go out the doggie door and I haven't found a boxer pile in the house in months. She learned how to sit for treats. She is a little slow on sit, but she does sit if you got a treat in your hand and say Bess sit. Bess wants to please you. If you are looking for a nice dog that combines Boxer and Boston, this is the girl for you.

Black Suede Boston
Adopted
Male Weight: guesing 20 -22 lbs Age: 2-5 years Stray at North Richland Hills Good Markings - Black and White Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots. Heartworm/Lyme/Erlichia: Not Tested Yet Neutered Good with cats? Not Tested Good with children? Not Tested Good with other dogs? Good with all dogs met so far Housetrained? Seems to be trained to the doggie door Cratetrained? yes, but he did whine a bit at first Special needs: None have been determined at this time!
|
More information:
This Gorgeous boy was a stray at the North Richland Hills shelter. I can't believe that his people did not come looking for him.
When I got him out of the kennel he walked nicely on the leash and didn't try to pull me down getting out of there like I knew he wanted to. He had been bouncing all over the gate when I walked by, pick me, pick me, get me out of here but not barking actling like a fool like some dogs do.
I walked him out and we had a photo session. He sat nicely and just was a beautiful subject with the sun shining off his glossy black coat. He has good muscle tone and you can tell the boy has been well cared for which is why I just can't understand why no one came looking for him.
I decided to name him Black Suede. He knows how to sit, likes to ride in the car and is right at my side whenever I move. Suede jumped right up in bed with me and settled down like he has been part of my family for years. When I got up in the middle of the night, he got up with me and made sure I was ok.
This is a really nice dog who seems to think he is my dog now. It is gonna be really hard to let him go. So... you are gonna have to be extra special to get Suede.

More information:
One of my volunteers got this request from the ACO at the City of Corsicana animal control, stating, QUOTE: I have had another Boston Terrier brought to me that I would like some help with getting a good home for if you can. This guy is one year old and is a loving and devoted dog. His owners had to turn him in to us because they had to move, and the only apartments that they could find would not allow them to have a dog. He is house broke, and good with children and other animals. Please let me know if you can help with him too. END of QUOTE
He didn't take a real good photo at the shelter or here. He looks a lot better than the photos. He is a pretty boy and has one of those back ends that wag from the shoulders back. He also grins at you. Blarney has one of the glossiest coats I have seen on an incoming dog in a long time. He has been well cared for.
I will try and get some decent pix and get them up soon. He will go to the vet next week.

More information:
This little one was owner surrendered to the animal shelter because she puked and they didn't want to spend the money to take her to th vet. So far, she hasn't what I call thrown up with me, but has eaten like she has never been fed enough to get full. She does however do the Boston urps, where she will urp up a few kibbles in some water after she runs around a bit. This is due to the short nose and trachea combined, not because she is sick.
She is very thin and extremely frightened. ACO called us because she was scared and very nippy in a crate so wouldn't get adopted from the Animal Shelter.
Once I got her out of the crate Bubbles wasn't trying to bite me, just shook like a leaf. It took her a few days to warm up to me and she is still fairly timid.
I don't know how much human interaction she had before we got her, but I don't think she was ever taken anywhere to be socialized as everything frightens her. She can get on the bed going up the ramp, but cannot get off the bed as she is afraid to go down the ramp.
This is a little one that is gonna need a lot of TLC. I am not going to place her in a family with small children. She needs a quiet household.
Bubbles will make a good lap baby for someone. She wants to please, but just needs some confidence. I would suggest a obedience class as that helps to build confidence.
Update 12/11/11 - Bubbles has come out of her shell and is a very friendly and loving girl. She was just freaked out by the shelter experience. This is a BEAUTIFUL little girl who gets on well with the other dogs and will make someone a great pet.

Blue Blazer Boston
Adopted
Male Weight: 18-20 lbs Age: 1-4 years Marshall Shelter Mismarked - Halfwhite faced - blue eyes Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots. Heartworm/Lyme/Erlichia: Positive will begin treatment 7 26 and available for adoption after 8/26 Neutered Good with cats? Ok with cats that do not run! Good with children? Not Tested Good with other dogs? Good with all dogs met so far Housetrained? Seems to be trained to the doggie door Cratetrained? Yes Special needs: None have been determined at this time!
|
More information:
Got a note from my friends at the Harris County Humane society, QUOTE: The Marshall shelter asked us to pick up a male Boston they had had for awhile. Time was up. He appears to be 1-2 years old. Nice, social dog.
If you have room let us know. They said the only interest they had had on him was a breeder. END OF QUOTE
Notice that a BREEDER is going to the animal shelter to get purebred animals to breed!!! So those of you who buy from breeders that are not reputable and breeding to better the breed may be getting dogs that you don't know where they come from. Thankfully, the shelter didn't adopt him out to the breeder.
First off this boy has blue eyes and is mismarked with the too much white on his face which doesn't meet the breed standard therefore he should not be bred period. Idiot breeder! However, that doesn't mean that he isn't a GREAT dog and a wonderful pet for someone.
Blue is just as sweet as can be. Gets along with all my dogs even the Boxer boy Teddy that a lot of the boy Bostons don't like. He is even good with cats as you can see in the pix.
Blue is just happy to get some love and attention. He was a stray so we have no history on him. He has a haggerty spot on his head which makes a great kissy spot.

Bolli Stoli Boston

Heartworm/Lyme/Erlichia: Negative Neutered Good with cats? Not Tested Good with children? Not Tested Good with other dogs? Good with all dogs met so far Housetrained? working on it Cratetrained? not crated here Special needs: None determined at this time
|
More information:
This is what Leighann has to say about Bolli, QUOTE: Group, I melted today when I met this boy. I've thought about him since I dropped him off. If I found him on the street, he might have never made it Wanda. Whoever had him never came to claim him at the shelter.
Anyway, I almost always crate transport dogs, but after about 3 minutes in the car with him, he was in the front seat. He has THIS LOOK. I don't know how to explain it. He woo'd me. He's so cute!
So Sweet! Look at this face. He didn't act like an idiot and has just the right amount of 'curious and playful'. He explored the car then laid down in the front seat. At one point, He stood on the center console, facing me and put one paw on my shoulder and just looked at me (2 inches from my face).
He wanted a kiss. I gave in. He's funny too. He made me laugh over and over. Every time I spoke to him, he wagged his tail. He's very happy to be with
people. This is someone's sweet little character filled boy. He is adorable!
People should be fighting over him. I told Wanda if he was a man, he would be 'my type'. Handsome, sweet, affectionate, but not too much. Attentive, but didn't need to be in my lap. He has all the good qualities a dog should have. I miss that sweet boy already. Whoever gets him will be so lucky! Sniff, Leigh Ann
Wanda's notes: Has Kennel cough - and has a puncture in his right eye that might need surgery if it ruptures, I am medicating and hoping it heals.
This was someone's baby and I don't know why in the heck they didn't come and get him from the shelter. He sleeps with me at night. Bolli gets along well with the other dogs. He is a nice looking Boston with a quirky slightly longer than usual lightning bolt kink tail. When he is happy that tail does some wagging too. He lets me know when someone is at the door, but quiets down when I say ok. He knows how to sit and really is a nice dog. His owners must be kicking themselves for losing such a special boy. It is gonna be really hard to let him go once I get him fixed up. I just gotta get him over that nasty kennel cough so I can get his eye fixed.
UPDATE: Bolli has had the worst case of Kennel cough ever, it hung on and on and on. Dr. Cindy looked at Bolli's eye and she said he got poked in the eye and fibrose tissue formed so his eye is not going to rupture and we don't need to do anything to it. IT does look a lot better than it did. Since that is good, then Bolli is now ready for adoption.

More information:
This is a happy little guy that wants to play and have a good time. He was a stray at the Canton High kill shelter. We pulled him on his euthansia date because he was so cute.
Bourble is just bouncy and playful. He gets along with all the dogs here including the big ones. Bourble just seemed like the right name for him. He is just so cute and cuddly.
This baby has the pug tail and the Boston personality. He is eager to please and will make someone a great friend. Plus he is small so he is easy to transport with you if you travel which is something the Boston in him loves to do. He likes to ride and go with his person.
These are the only pix from the shelter that I have right now as I have been sick and just don't feel like taking pix yet.

More information:
I got a note from my rescue friend Barbara with Homeward Bound telling me the Grapevine shelter had a 16 year old Boston they didn't want to put to sleep and can I take it. Well... you know me and old dogs, I said I would take her.
When I got over to pick her up I heard the whole story. Buffy was one of 3 Bostons owned by an 94 year old gentleman. He was a granfather in law of one of the ACO's and they agreed to try and help find her a home as the other 2 dogs were placed easily because they were younger. The older gentleman was going to put her down and had a grave dug for her and everything and then just couldn't do it. He begged the ACO to find someone to love her for the rest of her life. And that is where we come in. :) When I picked her up she was surprisingly active and friendly for such an elderly dog with hearing and vision impairment. I have hopes that she will be adopted by someone who loves older dogs that will give her a nice place to spend the remaining time she has being loved and spoilt. She does have a mammory tumor and a lump on her butt that we will have checked out when we get her to the vet for care.
Poor Buffy, I had her surgeries done and put her in a foster home and she popped her butt stitches so has to go back to the vet to be resewed.
I Took Buffy the old lady in since she had the really nasty diarrhea the past 2 days. Dr. Cindy checked the fecal no parasites showing. She didn’t have a temp. so we have some metro to give her and we are gonna back off on the baytril and give her amoxi. She also has some etogesic for inflammation and pain. Her mammory tumor and butt tumor results came back today. They were both Adenocarcinoma. We are not sure if there were good margins on the butt one that they are calling anal sack apocrine gland adenocarcinoma. Basically she has cancer and we are to watch to see if any more lumps and bumps appear.
Lisa will likely be fostering Buffy until she passes away. We will basically keep her comfortable and when her quality of life is no longer there, then we will make the tough choice to let her go.
We need donations for Buffy's care. The first surgery was over $600 and I haven't gotten the amounts back for the second surgery or for the check up afterward yet. Caring for a sweet elderly dog like Buffy may not seem to be something that most folks think of when they think of rescue, but... old dogs need love too and deserve to have a place to be loved and have their lives to enjoy the spoiling and know they are safe. So please donate towards Buffy's care. Thank you.

Adopted
Female Weight: 20-22 lbs Age: 3-6 years Stray at Monroe Louisiana Shelter Mismarked White Head Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots. Heartworm/Lyme/Erlichia: Negative!!! Spayed Good with cats? NO CATS! Good with children? Not Tested Good with other dogs? Good with all dogs met so far Housetrained? Seems to be trained to the Doggie Door Cratetrained? Yes Special needs: None determined at this time
|
More information:

Bunny was a stray at the West Monroe Louisiana Animal Shelter.
My overnight and transport volunteer Barbara had this to say about her, QUOTE: Bunny is in the house! Nice Sweet girl! A couple of sniffs and grrrrr's with Tooter Bug, but that's about it! Funniest thing... she ducks every time we drove under an overpass or bridge. End of QUOTE
Per the shelter volunteer who pulled, overnighted and transported her to Barbara, QUOTE: Bunny does not like cats and wants to eat them! She tried to get one at the shelter and both of my cats here at the house. Also she so wanted to eat my bunnies from under the cage. She just barked at my miniature horse and really looked at the chickens. With my poodles she did not show much interest. I bathed her and cleaned out her ears. Her eyes are really red and one is way worse than the other. I tested for ulcers and they were clear. Also it seems that she has a luxating patella on the left. Can't wait for you to meet her. She is people sweet and loves to give kisses! END OF QUOTE
Wanda's notes: Bunny is NOT DEAF despite her white head. As you can see by the pix, Bunny loves to play tug of war with my boxer Teddy and our little Kis-Kesay. She gets along well with the other dogs. Bunny will be a great dog for someone. She looks like she has been well cared for and is not starving like a lot of them we get in here. I think at one time she was someone's beloved baby. Bunny is very affectionate and listens to you intently when you talk to her. She will be a great family member for someone.

I got a note from the Jacksboro ACO stating, QUOTE: Picking up young unnutered male Boston he is very sweet. He is being turned over by owner because they cannot afford to get vet treatment. I will take him directly to the vet. he is very under weight. End of Quote.
This dog is EXTREMELY emaciated as you can see by the photos. Black dogs don't show how boney they are in pix for some reason. Come to find out suppossidly the poor boy has been in the backyard all his life with a bunch of other dogs who wouldn't let him eat (I personally don't imagine they were feeding any of them enough.)
This boy was terrified by all the changes in his life and hid under the table in the utility room for a couple of days before he would come out and interact. Now that he is comfortable, he has come out and is asking for attention. This is a GORGEOUS dog, just look at that face! He should NEVER have been thrown out in a backyard and neglected like he was.

Cajun Bloody Mary Boston
Adopted
Female Weight: 15-17 lbs Age: 2-3 years Jefferson Parrish Louisiana Animal Control Mismarked - Half white faced Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots. Heartworm/Lyme/Erlichia: Positive - Began treatment 10/5 and will be available after 11/4 Spayed Good with cats? Ok with cats that do not run! Good with children? Not Tested Good with other dogs? Good with all dogs met so far Housetrained? Working on it! Cratetrained? yes Special needs: None have been determined at this time!
|
More information:
As you can see in the pix Mary is a bit timid around cats, so she should be ok with cats in your household.
Here are Tom's comments who picked her up from the shelter and fostered her for us until transport could be arranged, QUOTE: Hey All,
The Jefferson Parish little lady is in the flock. My son picked her up on Tuesday and she's doing fine. She's very small, bony, freshly spayed. She's been through some rough times which makes her a little skittish but is very friendly. She ignores Hugh and Hugh doesn't care much for her since she won't play with him. She loves her (Hugh's) kennel and sleeps through the night without any issues. Needs some potty training work, starting to understand the dog door and eats appropriate for her size. She explores but stays close. Great corkscrew tail that wags in rhythm with her butt.
She warms up to people very fast but is cautious at first. She'll be an awesome pet and couch buddy. Loves to cuddle up and chill. I don't think she'll be very rambunctious. More of a lover than a tussler.
Here is what foster mom Linda has to say about Mary, QUOTE: She is a beautiful Boston Terrier girl. She is so sweet you just can't help but love her. She likes people but is a little shy at first. I don't know if she likes children or cats. So how did she come to be in a kill shelter? She's not telling and maybe that's because she does not want to go back to her former life. It is almost positive she has had a litter of pups. Barely past being a pup herself she will not have that happen again. She is very calm, crate trained and almost 100% house trained also. This girl loves other dogs and gets along with them well. She enjoys a chew toy now and then and a nice soft bed to nap on. She would love to nap on your lap and if invited would do just that. If you think you can provide the home Mary deserves please ask for an adoption application for her. Mary is ready to give you her love and devotion.
UPDATE 11/6/10 Mary has had her heartworm treatment and is ready to go. She needs a quiet household with out lot of small kids to make her nervous. She is a sweet girl.

Carli did have some mast cell tumors removed in 08, but there has been no recurrance. You just need to be aware if you see lumps or bumps come up to get them checked out.
Carli is not good with all dogs. I would like to place her in an only dog home if I can or with a submissive male. She would be a delight to someone who wants a loving companion. This is a huge heart in a small body and she is looking eagerly for someone to lavish all her love on.

More information:
This is what Chewy's foster Mom Donna has to say about him, QUOTE: Chewy was an owner surrender from a growing family that felt they didn't have enough time to devote to him. He has been well loved and cared for and he has a wonderful personality. He's a fairly active young Boston and loves to play but he will happily settle down and curl up in your lap for a nap. He gets along with other dogs just fine, and his previous owners said he was fine with their cat and even their rabbit! He was raised with young children but I have not personally seen him interact with children and he does have a habit of jumping on you, so he might topple over a toddler or small child. Chewy is fine on a leash and is crate trained. He is not housebroken so he needs work there. He knows what the doggie door is but is reluctant to go out it, although he will come back inside through it whenever I take him out. If I could have another dog, he would be staying with me, but I'm at my limit! He will be a wonderful companion for some lucky human! End of Quote.
Wanda's note: This is a nice boy and everything Donna says he is. He is getting his heartworm treatment and will make someone a great family member.

Booster is a little bigger Boston in heart as well as body. He is looking for love and hopefully we will help him find it.
Booster does have a slight case of either flea allergies or demodex. I can let you know more Friday after I pick him up from the vets office.

We got a plea from one of our transport volunteers in Louisiana. She stated, QUOTE: Fred picked up some Labs from a Kennel to transport, in speaking with the owner she told Fred she has a Boston who has been with her for 6 months!!! Said she kind of suspected they were going to leave him for good and they did. They got a puppy!!! This boy is said to be 12 yrs old. BUT Michelle says he does not act his age. He is happy and playful and very sweet. Is a lover boy! He is blind in one eye. Was told he had an injury to the eye when he was 4 yrs old. His other eye seems fine. She has taken him to the vet because he was not eating well and lost weight. Vet wormed him and put him on ID. He's gaining the weight back. He was probably depressed! I would be.
The lady has had him for 6 months at her boarding kennel. End of Quote
Wanda's rant - Get a puppy and dump your dog at a Boarding kennel, sheesh what kind of people are these? I would do anything to have my old man Bruce back and these people dump this poor dog. Grumble. Grumble.
Everyone that has met Cooper loves him. HE is a gentle guy who immediately made himself comfortable while I was taking pix and he is good in costume without a leash on as you can see. Cooper had no issues with my outside cats and ran around happily smelling everything outside while I took pix of other dogs. This is a nice guy who can stand some groceries and who knows that a soft bed is a wonderful thing. We will get him over to the vets and have her go over him to see what all he needs, but if you are looking for a nice boy who just wants to be loved, then Cooper is the boy to adopt.

This boy was rescue only because he came in with a Chihuahua and together they were a bit fear aggressive. Once he was separated from the Chi, he became just afraid and not aggressive. I think he was just following the older dog's lead. He is afraid, but warms up to you slowly.
Corby is ok in a crate and good on a leash. He has tried to climb into my lap several times tonight since being home. He is a very pretty boy, one of them slender long legged lanky boys. He has a Beautiful glossy coat and he has a touch of blue in his right eye that I think you can see in the photos. he could use a few groceries. I think with a little love and training giving him some self confidence that this boy will bloom into a fantastic dog.

More information:
Here is what Elaine says about Cricket. She is very small at 14 pounds. She isn’t a very secure girl and shivers and shimmies all over when you come into the room. No cringes, but lots of wiggles. She seems to have separation anxiety, but then she has to stay in my bathroom right now because I’m out of space. She’s housetrained, very loving. Mostly black with a little white on the neck and face. She seems to do ok with other dogs. Cricket is Not good with cats. She doesn’t seem to jump up much so would probably be good with kids. End of Quote
Wanda's notes: Cricket is very sweet and loving. So far I haven't had any issues with her, but she does seem to have the nervous shivers when she gets attention. Cricket would be a good dog for someone who wants a small lap dog as she enjoys being held and loved on.

If you are looking for a lap dog that likes to lay around and get brushed, then Curielle is your girl. She says she is beautiful and is looking for someone to keep her that way by brushing her beautiful hair daily. Brushing is a good bonding and relaxing time for a dog and her person.

Daquiri Blossom Boston
Adopted
Female Weight: 21.1 lbs Age: 2 years Stray at the Mansfield Shelter Good Markings - Black and White Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots. Heartworm/Lyme/Erlichia: Positive and began treatment 9/27 and will be available around 10/27 Spayed Good with cats? Not Tested Good with children? Not Tested Good with other dogs? Good with all dogs met so far Housetrained? Working on it! Cratetrained? yes Special needs: DEMODEX
|
More information:
I got a note from Marilyn with the Mansfield shelter telling me about this sweet girl. She was a stray and her skin was not in the best of shape. I told her I would come and get her.
This baby is just as sweet as you could ever want in a girl. She is a medium sized girl who is happy and playful once she gets comfortable with you. She is a bit scared at first. Blossom loves attention. She was good at the vet and just snarfed down her comfortis and heartgard.
I think once we get her demodex cleared up and her heartworms treated that this little girl will make a family really happy.
Surprise, Surprise, Blossom was preggers. Whoo Boy! She had her puppies on 7/22/10. Hopefully, these babies will survive. They were born to a momma in full immune suppressed demodex so... they may not survive. Please pray for them. Thank you.
Due to puppies, demodex and heartworms, I cannot give an approximation on available for adoption date.
UPDATE: 10/11/10 Puppies are all weaned and adopted out. So Daquiri has been spayed. We started her heartworm treatment on 9/27 so she is good to go from the heartworm treatment by end of October. She still needs to grow some hair, but hopefully it will be better by end of month. We will get her scraped again then. She has been greatly stressed with having puppies, nursing puppies, heartworm treatment etc so he hair hasn't made as fast a come back as we would have liked. But she is working on it.
Update 11/6/10 - Well this baby finally has everything done that needs to be done. She Had her babies, weaned them, got spayed, went through heartworm treatment, her hair has grown back in and she has a negative on her skin scraping. YEAH!!! So this sweetheart is ready for adoption.

More information:
Elaine sez, QUOTE: I went to visit the old guy today. He does have a lot of gray in the face but he’s pretty spry. The teefers are a hoot, but I couldn’t get him to stand still and face the camera. His coat is pretty rough; he must have been on the street a while, and he’s very dirty. But once he’s had his surgery, a bath, and some good groceries, he should be pretty presentable. He’s not aggressive, doesn’t seem to have vision problems, just very soft poop. If he isn’t reclaimed, he will have his surgery and be ready on Friday evening. I took a bunch of photos, but most of them were just a portion of his body as he ran around quite a bit. I’ve just been able to sit down at the computer, so I’ll go through the photos tonight and sort out some decent ones.
Wanda, Have we used the name The Diddle Hopper yet? That was in one of your previous posts for a male name. It seems to fit his snaggle toothed grin.
JIm Sez, QUOTE:
Gang, This old guy is such a doll - teefers and underbite to die for - sometimes just the lower row of snaggleteeth is visible, sometimes one fang, and sometimes both.
It was difficult to capture his essence with ears up, to get the full impact
of his cuteness. He was recently neutered and is heartworm negative. Elaine said that TLAC thought he was about 7 yrs old or so, but I'd guess more like 10 due to that frosty face.
He was a a delightful copilot and loved attention but didn't demand it. He
likes belly rubs, ear scratching and chew sticks.
Wanda sez: this is the sweetest old guy. He may be grey, but man does he has some energy. He loves to bounce around and he can pick those feet up and move. He lives to love on you. HE has been sleeping on a pillow next to my bed since he got here. All I gotta say is I am not in a hurry to adopt this guy out. If I didn't already have enough dogs of my own, Diddle would be staying right here with me. HE is GREAT!!! I love him.

Female Weight: 17.8 lbs Age: 9-10 years Arlington Seizure Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots. Spayed Good with cats? NO CATS! Good with children? Not Tested Good with other dogs? Good with some, but not all Housetrained? Yes she seems to be Cratetrained? yes Special needs: Allergies
|
More information:
Didi is a very friendly and happy old girl. Didi is a long lanky girl and on the thin side. She is very spry and gets around like a youngster ESPECIALLY when she sees a cat! Zoom! Didi is after it like a speed racer. Obviously, Didi wants to get the cat so NO CATS for Didi's new home.
Didi is crate trained and does not mess her crate. As long as you take her out regularly she will hold it and go potty out on leash. That doesn't mean you need to leave her in a crate all the time, just that she would be ok while you were at work.
Didi seems to have some allergies. We are giving her a no grain dog food in case it is grain allergies. We do not have the funding to test to see what she is allergic to. We are treating her as if they are food related and contact allergies.
I took her on a home visit yesterday with an older lady who said she had a bit too much energy for her.
Didi is looking for someone who likes to go for walks, take her for long rides in the car, and who will give her lots of cuddle time. She has good manners and wants to please. Don't let the grey hairs fool ya, Didi is still full of get up and go. Please open your heart to an older girl who is no longer a puppy, but still has some puppy ways.

More information:
I recieved a plea from a Lady in Colorado several months ago saying she was coming down at the end of September to put both her parents in a nursing home and wondered if I could help them find a good home for their Boston Dixie. Naturally I said yes. She asked if we could take her on the last day before they went into the nursing home so they could love her as long as possible and I had no problems with that. She did tell me that she has storm phobia and when you went to put her in a crate she would bite you.
I picked her up and we have had some major thunderstorms through hers since I did and I haven't had any problems with her trying to bite me, but then again I don't try and put her in a crate either. She goes behind my bed and shivers a bit, but other than that she is just fine.
Dixie is a ball player extroidenaire as you can see in the photos. I was holding up a ball and she really wanted me to throw it for her. The owners said she would play fetch with you as long as you wanted.
This is a sweet little older girl who is a bit overwhelmed by all the dogs here, but learning they ain't gonna eat her. Dixie is loving and sweet. She is housebroken per the owner and I haven't seen anything to dispute that.
I think that Dixie would be good for an older couple since her family was an older couple. She is a quiet dog who wants to be loved and loves to play if you want to play, but she is not obnoxious about it like some dogs. :)
If you are looking for a great little girl, then Dixie is one you should look hard at cause she is what a Boston is supposed to be, friendly, lively, yet capable of calming down and just interested in everything going on around her.

Male Weight: 18 -20 lbs Age: Shelter says 4 Owner Surrender to Garland Good Markings - Black and White Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots. Heartworm/Lyme/Erlichia: Positive and will begin treatment on 4/25 and should be available for adoption around 5/25 Neutered Good with cats? Ok with cats that do not run! Good with children? Not Tested Good with other dogs? Good with all dogs met so far Housetrained? Seems to be trained to the doggie door. Cratetrained? yes Special needs: Has a deformed right front leg and cloudy eye
|
More information:
Dutchie was a owner surrender to Garland along with Applejack Daisy because they were MOVING!!! Jeez, find a place that lets you have dogs and just pay the pet deposit, don't dump your dogs, people! This is one of my pet peeves like heartworm prevention. I have moved many times over the years and I always found a place that let me have my dogs.
Dutchie's original name was Duke, but I have had so many Dukes, I thought he should have a new name for a new life. Dutchie is a sweet boy who gets along well with the other dogs. He likes to get love and attention from me. He does like to guard the food bowl if it is full, but does not have an issue with me picking it up or anything.
Dutchie has a deformed right front foot as you can see in the photos. It doesn't stop him from running around or doing anything he wants to do. He does limp on it. He also has a cloudy eye that he probably can't see out of, but he sees well out of the other eye and gets around without any problems.
Duthie is a sweet boy who just needs someone to love him and give him a great home. Are you the person that will see past a few small imperfections to the golden heart that lies beneath the outer apperance? If so, then Dutchie will give you his lifetime of love and devotion.

This is one of the HSNT BOWIE PUPPY MILL BUST Momma's baby. She was bred too young on her first heat. she went into labor and delivered a dead puppy. Then wasn't progressing even after vet gave her a shot. So she had a c section and the next puppy was born dead too. Just this boy and a little girl survived. They were very BIG puppies and the momma was a small girl who hadn't finished her development, but she is being a real good momma and these puppies are getting fat and sassy.
IF they make it to be 8 weeks old, they will only be adopted to someone with previous Boston puppy experience. They will need all the normal training any puppy would. Their adoption fees will be $400.

Female Weight: 12.3lbs Age: 1-2 years Stray at the Jefferson Parrish Louisiana West Bank Shelter Too much White on body, but otherwise good Markings Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots. Heartworm/Lyme/Erlichia: Positve - Began treatment 11/10/09 and will be available for adoption 12/10/09 Spayed Good with cats? Not Tested Good with children? Not Tested Good with other dogs? Good with all dogs met so far Housetrained? Seems to be trained to the doggie door Cratetrained? Yes Special needs: None
|
More information:
This is what Tom her foster home has to say about her, QUOTE: Flirtini is a perfect name. She arrived with painted nails and a baby blue rhinestone encrusted collar. Not kidding.
She's a little thing. I'm guessing 10 pounds or so. Karen and I both think that she's pretty young. She's bony but she also looks muscular.. She's very lovable and became comfortable quickly. She's independent. Basically ignored Hugh and my daughter's BT who I'm sitting with this week. They are equally unimpressed with her. I just bathed her and she's chilling on the couch. She pee'd for Karen outside and again when she got here. That's a good sign. Not interested in running away. Just explores and comes on back. Also good. Nice coat, no major skin issues.
Now the challenges. The paperwork says HW positive. She has a cough/ sneezes. Also, a goopy eye but not bad. I think that she has dental problems. Her breath is terrible and her teeth look bad. Plus, the poor thing has a smile that would qualify for an orthodontic school case study. It's actually cute in a backwoods kind of way.
My first take is that she'll be an awesome pet after she gets her little issues resolved.
I'm think that I'll be hosting her for a few weeks until the next northern trek. She should be no problem. Her teeth don't seem to bothering her. I'm thinking about putting some Altoids in her food bowl though.
I'll try to get some pics and update when I can. END OF QUOTE.
Tom's Next update QUOTE: She's a special little dog. She follows me everywhere. Laid back for the most part. Very independent. She's eating well and seems to have more energy. Loves attention. Basically disinterested in the other dogs although she and Hugh are starting to play some. Great personality and loves people. Not sure about potty training yet. She's only about a foot tall but she has a 6" vertical leap. Her coughing/sneezing is much better and her gunky eye has improved. Even her breath is better. A couple more weeks
of good eating should put some meat on her bones. I'm thinking that all she needs is HW treatment and a dental tune up and she'll be top of the line. She'll be perfect for someone who wants a laid back, social, happy, loyal, loving pet. She's active but not rambunctious. She enjoys watching the action much more than participating. At the same time, she's neither scared or bashful. Like Karen said, she loves a car ride. END OF QUOTE.
Wanda's note: Transport to us is October 24th. I will know more after vetting.

More information:
Here is what Rachel my volunteer has to say about Roo, QUOTE: I picked this guy up from the East Baton Rouge Animal Control. He is heartworm +. He has these very black freckles on his belly, I included a picture. Jumps and spins when excited, likes being outside with my crew. Overall a good little guy! So "Roux", a little spin on the cajun place this boy originates from, is an escape artist. He has methodically checked the back fenced yard the like velociraptors in jurassic park and up until this evening we have blocked every hole the pugs have not found. but this evening, he found a spot where the chain link was a little lax and he slipped his skinny little butt under the fence (no digging required) and bound across the ditch and into my neighbors backyard. luckily they were outside and he went right to them and they returned him, but this guy should be watched. so now we will be out on a leash and free time in the back yard has ended for this little guy. End of Quote
Wanda's notes - Roo is a great little dog. I haven't had a problem with him trying to get out of my fence either under or over, but I also have a very big fenced yard (not chain link) plus a ton of Bostons and Boxers for him to play with and I am home a lot.
Roo has personality and energy. He is being treated for heartworms so I am keeping an eye on him. HE does need some groceries as he is thin, but... he seems to be doing well with his heartworm treatment so far.
Roo will make someone a great friend and companion.

GIBSON'S FINEST Boston Terrier
Adopted
Male Weight: 17.6 Age: 2 Owner Surrender Brindle/White - Good Markings Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots. Heartworm/Lyme/Erlichia: NEGATIVE!!! Neutered Good with cats? Not Tested Housetrained? Seems to be trained to the Doggie door Cratetrained? yes Special needs: None
|
More information:
Gibsons was adopted from a shelter and then surrendered to ABTR after it was determined he was too mouthy with the adopter's small children. The adopted contacted us to take him and we did. NO SMALL Children as he is snappy with them when he is laying down.
This is what Foster mom Renee has to say, QUOTE: Gibby is a sweet loving little guy! He doesn't quite know how to play, but over time and with patience I think he would get the idea. We have thrown the ball for him--he'd run after it then as soon as he'd get to it he'd turn around and look me as if to ask, "Now what?!" The closest he has come to actually playing is to sqiurm around on his back while you rub his tummy then start "boxing" with his front paws while still on his back.
He loves to hang out on the couch when we're moving around the house, he'll snuggle up next to me but not so much with my husband (one of the reasons I think he may prefer a female in the household). He'll snuggle up on the floor next to the bed when I toss the throw pillows on the ground and doesn't seem to want to come up on the bed until invited, but once he's on the bed he will snuggle up with me for the night (so far doesn't like to be under the covers). He sleeps through the night, that first night I let him out at 4 am just as a precaution but Sunday night and last night he was perfectly fine to go all night without a potty break.
He's not a very noisy Boston, hasn't snored so far, but be warned--his farts are silent, but deadly! No audio to warn you before the smell starts. :) I'm sure his gas is partly his simply being a Boston, but partly due to his diet--they have him on Science Diet!
Wanda's notes: This is a really nice dog who has been through a home, to shelter, fostered, back to shelter, adopted, returned to same shelter, then adoted again, then to our rescue. It is no wonder he has no idea what to do. He lives for attention and when he gets it, he gets over excited. Gibby wants to please. He just needs someone willing to work with him on obedience and what is expected of him. He is mouthy as are a lot of Bostons so he needs someone who has had Bostons who needed some work on behavior in the past. Gibby is a beautiful dog who given a chance will make an excellent companion and family member for the right person.

More information:
My friend Sue called and asked me if I could take this little girl who had been dropped off at her vets office. Gigi's owner had developed severe allergies to both her and her little rat terrier so could no longer keep them and was heartbroken. She asked her vet to find them good homes. The vet contacted my rescue friend Sue who in turn contacted me to take her.
this little girl is pretty perfect other than she doesn't like cats. She is used to sleeping in her crate at night. She is very loving and loves to go for rides. She is a little timid with other dogs, but is gaining confidence daily.
Gigi is very beautiful on the inside as well as on the outside. She will make someone a great doggie companion for many years to come.

Hennessey Boston
Adopted
Male Weight: 26 lbs Age: 6 years Stray at Keller Shelter Good Markings - Brindle - Haggarty Spot Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots. Heartworm/Lyme/Erlichia: POSITIVE AND Began treatment 7/27 and will be ready for adoption by 8/27! Neutered Good with cats? Ok with cats that do not run! Good with children? Not Tested Good with other dogs? Good with some, but not all Housetrained? yes, if taken out regularly Cratetrained? yes Special needs: None
|
More information:
HEre is what Jim has to say about Hennessey QUote: Wow what a cutie-pie! This guy from the Keller Animal Shelter is very handsome, perfect face, cute wall-eyes and great build. He has gorgeous brindle coat, though it could use some salmon oil to spiff it up. Cutest little tail stump that curves UP! Hennessy is a perfect name for him, since he's the color of cognac. What a sweetheart - loved being loved on, and gave me lots of kisses, though he is a bit wary of being picked up - both Wanda and I noticed this, but if you are very slow and first talk to him and run your hands along his sides, he will submit to being picked up. No growling or grumbling, just a surprise type reaction.
Wanda's notes: Does not have to be only dog as he will get along with females and submissive males. Sweet boy with people Housebroken easy foster if there are no other dogs. HE is crate and leash trained. OK with cats that don’t run. He is a Seal or been out in the sun too long, hair in really coarse shape, beautiful dog!
Update 11/25/09 - Just thought I would give a quick update on Hennessey. I decided to work on him and other dogs, so I have been working with him here and there. I have been taking him outside with me when I am over in the side yard where the cats are. He is OK with cats even running ones. I really like this guy. He wants to go for a ride real bad. Every time I open the car door he is bouncing in there not realizing I am just getting stuff out and cleaning out the vehicle etc. HE is real disappointed when I pull him out and close the door with no ride. This is a nice boy who will make someone a good dog.
He has been good with Penelope the little almost blind girl and with Nicky and Torpedo out there as well. BUT… when I took Teddy (my boxer) out on a leash he was all over his head and Teddy wasn’t even thinking about him until he did that. So… I am thinking maybe I jumped the gun on him by saying he wasn’t good with other dogs and maybe he is just not good with BIG dogs. So I will keep working with him and see how it goes.
If he does start getting testy, he is pretty good about stopping when you get after him and tell him to behave him self. I just think he didn't know what to think.
He has had a seizure and been to the vet, but no temp, heart sounds ok, nothing out of place so we are to watch and see if he has another one.

JACK ROSE Boston
Adopted
Male Weight: 13.5 lbs Age: 1-4 years Stray at Clebourne TX Shelter Good Markings - Brindle and White Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots. Heartworm/Lyme/Erlichia: Negative!!! Neutered Good with cats? Not Tested Good with children? Good with ALL kids met so far Good with other dogs? Good with all dogs met so far Housetrained? yes Cratetrained? yes Special needs: Has only one eye!
|
More information:
As you can see Jack had a really nasty ruptured eye when we got him. He is a cute and very sweet little guy dispite being in pain. Jack Rose was negative heartworm, positive hooks, and positive for demodex on that spot on his back. His left eye was ruptured and so it was removed. He has been treated for the hookworms and is being treated for the demodex as well. Dr. Cindy says He also has a little pain in the neck on the left side. So she sent some metacam for him. He is doing fine and we sent him over to Laura to foster. She will give us an update and send pictures soon.
Here is what Laura, Jack's foster momma has to say about him, QUOTE: As promised, here’s the write up for Jack and I’ve attached 3 good pictures of him. Let me know if you need any other info.
2-3 years old
Jack is a sweet and loving boy that likes people. He gets along very well with our 2 dogs, one being an alpha male. Also gets along well with our neighbor’s Boxer. Cats are unknown. Jack loves to play with toys and chew on his Nylabone. He did very well when he met the neighborhood children. He is thin and needs to gain a couple of pounds, but is eating well so that shouldn’t take long.
Jack likes to be with people and follows us through the house. He loves cuddling on the sofa too. He has been sleeping in a crate at night and does cry for a few minutes before laying down and going to sleep. He would probably prefer to be cuddled up in bed with his people.
He seems to know that he is supposed to do his business outside and does so whenever you take him out. He is learning to use our doggie door and should have that mastered soon. We will begin working on basic commands soon so that he will have good manners. This precious boy will be a very loving pet for some lucky family.
Wanda's note - Jack is a really nice little guy and is cute as a button with one ear up and one ear down. He has a winning personality and gets on well with others. I think he would be a good addition to anyone's family.

More information:
Got a note from a rescue friend of mine about this girl.
Danielle sez: Picked up our sweet little girl today - she's very pretty and nice as can be. Her right eye
is kind of a mess- very cloudy and a bit swollen .way to get her up to Gainsville for spay and checkup. She's got a perfectly round little spot in the middle of the top of her head. End of Quote
Jennatini is a wonderful dog. She is good with other dogs, kids and I haven't tested her with cats. She knows sit, loves to sleep under the covers with you and is just generally everything that you would want a Boston to be. I LOVE HER!
She does have dry eye in the right eye that needs to have some ointment put in a couple of times a day. Not really that hard to do and she is fairly cooperative about it.
Jenna loves to get attention. She is very responsive to you and I am sure with a little training she could excell at obedience. All she needs now is a place to call home with someone to love.

More information:
My friend at the shelter says, QUOTE: The owner surrendered him to the shelter because she did not have enough time for him, and did not want to walk him. (Yes I know, people still amaze me.) Anyway, he is a happy little guy. Brindle and White All he wants is some affection from someone, anyone and he is happy.
Martha, his foster momma says, QUOTE: Kid Curry (aka KC) is a great young boy with lots of energy, but not bouncing off the wall. He loves to play with the other dogs and often initiates play; unfortunately some of that play involves jumping on the back or nipping the ears of the older dogs… He is learning doggie etiquette from Ginger and Rocky as they both rebuke him when he gets out of line.
If KC picks up a toy that Rocky wants, Rocky will starting whining and bowing and then KC takes off at a run and the race begins, around the house, in and out of the doggie door, around the yard. It usually ends with KC in my lap panting as he thinks I’ll help him keep the toy.
Kid Curry knows how the use the doggie door, but still has accidents in the house. I’d say he is about half way to being house trained. Accidents only seem to happen when I’m not home.
KC is always already for a cuddle and wants to be next to his people. He will settle down on a dog bed if you insist. He likes to sleep in bed with me and will start up near my face expecting pets, but when I tell him to “go to bed”, he’ll go to the foot of the bed and settle down. (Sometimes he goes under the bed to sleep).
KC walks well on leash and really enjoys our visits to an elderly neighbor. KC is a wonderful puppy like BT and is eager to learn. I think he would do very well in obedience classes and recommend that whoever adopts him enrolls him in classes. He has already learned to sit for treats. Now we are working on sitting for treats and waiting your turn (he does try to grab treats for the other dogs practically out of their mouths). He will back down when you say Aye Aye Aye so I know he wants to please and understands he isn’t behaving how I want him to.
Lovely boy, I think he would do well with either a boy or girl dog companion. I leave the dogs free in the house (no access to carpeted rooms) when I’m at work and other than a few potty accidents he is fine loose.
KC knows what a harness is. I had a size small on him yesterday but it was just a tad tight so I dug out a size medium and was tightening it down and both KC and Rocky showed up ready for a walk.

Kilbeggan Boston
Adopted
Male Weight: 9 lbs and growing Age: Estimated DOB is October 8, 2010 OS from Luling Good Markings - Brindle and White Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots. Heartworm/Lyme/Erlichia: Negative, PUPPY! Neutered Good with cats? Not Tested Good with children? Not Tested Good with other dogs? Good with all dogs met so far Housetrained? NO, its a PUPPY! Cratetrained? NO, its a PUPPY! Special needs: None have been determined at this time!
|
More information:
Here is Kilby's story per Elaine: Wanda,
I just received a call from the woman in Luling who donated the “lost” quilt (she has a Boston female). She was at the gas station and a couple there were offering to sell their 10-week-old purebred BT puppy for $50 for gas money. Of course Cyndi couldn’t stand the thought of who knows what kind of person getting this pup, so she purchased him and called me to see if we could take him into rescue. I can get the pup from her this week and keep him until you can find a longer-term foster for him if you agree to take him. Cyndi is disabled and can’t care for a young pup more than a couple of days. I can get more info and photos to you. Let me know what you think.
(I SAID YES since it was a puppy and no puppy should be sold on the side of the road like that, besides it was one of our supporters who really didn't want to own a puppy, but couldn't stand to let the puppy be sold to any person who drove by.)
I slept on the couch with the Luling pup the last couple of nights, and he’s a good sleeper; only woke up once each night to potty, then straight back to bed and went back to sleep. He doesn’t whine much either when I leave the room. I’m glad I don’t need a poopie either!
Here is what Jim who picked Kilby up from Elaine has to say about him, QUOTE: Group,
This is the young puppy that Elaine's friend was able to buy for $50 from "owners" who needed gas money.
Thankfully this darling, brindle boy is now out of their hands and will soon have a competent, responsible family to call his own.
He has some digestive woes, though since he hadn't eaten in anticipation of his neuter surgery later today, he only piddled a little on the puppy pad in the crate I transported him in.
What a sweetie-pie. Just looking at him in his little sweater will melt your heart. He came with a blankie and pink plush toy from the kind samaritan woman who rescued him from the idiots.
Met Martha at the appointed time and place, so by now he should be short a pair of wallies and been given the once over by Doc Cindy. Elaine noticed he had a bit of a rough patch of wrinkly skin over his right eye, but we couldn't determine if it needed a skin scraping or not.
Can't wait to hear a good name for this snuggle bunny.
Jim
Wanda's notes: This baby is now neutered, had his first set of puppy shots as I am sure he hasn't had any shots before now, and is ensconsed in the masterbath to keep him isolated like you are supposed to do to a young puppy until they have ALL Their shots. Kilby does have a bit of kennel cough. He will get his next set of puppy shots on the 17th and then he will get his rabies and last set of puppy shots after the new year. He is a sweet roly poly puppy who needs everything any other puppy would need.
If you don't want to housebreak a dog, take it to training classes or deal with pee, poop, puke, chewing, biting or any of the other things puppies do during puppyhood, then don't bother to apply for the puppy. Puppies need more time and attention their 1st year than adult dogs do. You need to be willing to invest your time and attention on this puppy before I will adopt him to you. Puppies are a lot of committment and work on your part. The more effort you put into trainging a puppy the better dog you will have.

|
More information:
Here is what Jim has to say about Loopy, QUOTE: He is probably between 1 and 2 years - my guess would be closer to 1. He is quite skinny, but doesn't appear bony, so maybe he just has a very thin frame, though I am packing on the groceries for him while he's here. He is a steady eater, neither snarfing his food down, nor picking at it. He seems to enjoy both the kibble and moist canned foods equally, and takes treats nicely without lunging or snapping.
Another long body, long tail but he does appear to be just a badly bred Boston as opposed to a mixed breed. He has the most captivating wall eyes and even when he's looking directly at you, he kind of isn't! It is very cute. He must have fantastic peripheral vision.
Loopy is a very sweet, and loving boy - a great cuddler and loves attention, though doesn't pester you for it. He gets along fine with my crew of 6, and has shown neither aggression nor submission toward any of them. He just likes everybody and everything. Toys and chewies don't interest him much, but perhaps he's just never been exposed to them before. He does love to play with the other dogs but again, doesn't pester them to do so.
He appears to be housetrained, or could easily be trained. I've seen him do both
types of elimination outside, and not caught him marking indoors, though there
are undoubtedly temptations of rior "accidents" around the house.
He does have some type of respiratory woe, but has been on Doxycycline since
Tuesday and today (Thursday), he does seem to be better. It's more of a squeeky sneeze and wheeze than a cough. He did have clear/creamy nasal ischarge when I first saw him, but he hasn't had any lately, so that's a good sign. His nares appear to be quite normal, but of course I don't have equipment to look deeply in his nasal tract.
Waco does treat each dog
as they come in with an anti-flea preparation, so no fleas on him. I did give him a bath and cleaned his ears, which had virtually no gunk in them. He was not thrilled with the bathing process but didn't fight it either. Loopy did enjoy the towelling off
session as do many dogs.
Have not weighed him, but my guess would be 16 pounds or so. He is on the small side of normal for a Boston.
Loopy is the perfect combination of loving but not needy, playful
but not rambunctious, energetic yet not manic. He was just so darn easy to get along with and fit in seamlessly with my crew, which is not an easy feat. He wasn't aggressive or overly submissive.
It turns out he might be 50/50 housetrained ;-) His bathroom habits
are funny - he squats to pee, and lifts his leg to defecate! I was walking toward the kitchen and there he was on the dining room rug and lifted his leg. I thought he was about to pee, but instead he just took a dump right there in front of me before I could say "ACHHHH" or my usual "don't do that" noises...
He's eager to please, so I'm sure with a little work he will learn the
proper habits.
It will be a lucky individual or family who gets this guy.

I got a note about a Boston in Quarantine from a fellow rescuer. When I contacted the shelter, I was told QUOTE: He was a stray that a child was playing with and during play got a pinprick "bite" on hand. The dog is very nice, once his QT is over (@ 8th), if not reclaimed, I will check him out more closely. End of Quote
So since I know that sometimes in play scratches and slight nips happen, but they are not what I would call bites. So I decided to pull him and check him out. This is a GORGEOUS boy! He is sweet, loves attention and just seems like he was someones beloved pet. He is in good shape, not skinny and his coat is in good condition. It is strange that no one came to claim him.
Cal will be a great addition to anyone's home. He is eager to please and wants to be with his person. He follows me around the house well and is responsive to my voice and any corrections I may make to any of the dogs. This one is a keeper. I will let you know more after I get him vetted.

Luke's Lemonade Boston
Adopted
Male Weight: 26.3 Age: 1 year OS to Arlington Shelter Good Markings - Brindle and White Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots. Heartworm/Lyme/Erlichia: Negative Neutered Good with cats? Not Tested Good with children? Not Tested Good with other dogs? Good with all dogs met so far Housetrained? Seems to be trained to the doggie door. Cratetrained? Yes Special needs: None have been determined at this time.
|
More information:
Luke was OS to the shelter because the owners were afraid he was going to drown in their pool because he likes to swim and kept jumping in it when they were gone to work. Instead of putting him in a crate so he would be safe, they dumped him at the shelter. I didn't get any paperwork from the owners showing that he had previously been vetted, but he is in good shape and was heartworm negative.
From the way Luke acts, he wasn't taken out and socialized as he was terrified when he got here. He stayed in his crate for days and ran from me when he got out. Took about a week before he decided I wasn't the big bad wolf and would come up to me for loves. He is still a bit timid, but becoming more confident daily.
Luke likes treats, he likes other dogs and he is a very sweet boy. He likes to be petted. Seems to be housebroken to the doggie door. Loves to run like the wind with the other dogs and is just a general all around good happy to be Boston. He has plenty of energy but is not bouncing off the walls.
This is a handsome Boston with the droopy tilty ears that give them so much expression. He is gentle when he takes treats and he wants to please. I would start him in an obedience class to build his confidence. Did I mention he knows how to sit. This is a very nice boy who has had a home and not a puppy mill dog. So he has a head start on a lot of dogs from the shelters cause he knows what love is.

Miss Zoe's Hello Kitty Boston
Adopted
Female Weight: ? Age: 1-3 years Stray at Terrebonne Parish Louisiana Animal Shelter Good Markings - Black and White Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots. Heartworm/Lyme/Erlichia: Not Tested Yet Spayed Good with cats? Not Tested Good with children? Not Tested Good with other dogs? Good with all dogs met so far Housetrained? Working on it! Cratetrained? yes Special needs: None have been determined at this time!
|
More information:
I got a note from the ACO stating: We have another Boston in our shelter. He came to us with infections in his eyes and ears. Can you help him? End of Quote. We said yes as this is one of our shelters that always calls us when they get a Boston.
Karen, Zoe's foster mom sez: The Terrebone guy is here, and "he" is a she. She has a quite a bit of hair loss around her right ear, forehead and eye, on her little squiggle tail, a good size patch on her back and slight loss on her left side. Her coat was dull and full of dandruff and flea dirt, but did not see any live fleas on her. She is
scratching at times so we brought her to the self serve dog wash and gave her the royal treatment. Conditioning anti itch shampoo, shampooed her twice, and the dead fleas and flea dirt coming off was unbelievable. The water ran reddish brown, it was sad when I think about the misery she must have endured. She even had fleas and dirt between her toes! Cleaned her ears and I did not find them to be sore or very dirty. She has tear stains and here eyes look okay for now, will check her again in the am for any drainage. I am hoping that it is just flea allergy and it will resolve quickly with some good flea control and helped by good food too.
She does not seem to know how to play with toys, but she does enjoy chewing on bones, antlers and hard rubber toys like Kongs and the hard rubber teething type bones. Unfortunately, she did find one of my sandals---so she does like to chew on shoes as well.
She will sit most of the time for her bowl and treats, and pets too. We are working on "wait" before coming inside as a group. She does pretty well with the other pups. I only count to three to make her successful, but she is a quick learner. Walks fairly well on a
leash.
She seems to signal need to go out by pawing my arm insistently. I think she is housebroken. I don't have a doggy door here, but I think that she will do great once she can go out on her own. END OF QUOTE
Wanda's note: Zoe still needs to be vetted, but will be available for adoption after Memorial day if she is not heartworm positive.

More information:
This little girl was surrendered by her owner because he was going to a nursing home. What I have learned about her. She stays really near me when I go from room to room and when I go outside. She seems to be housebroken when taken out enough. She pops up on the bed with no trouble. She sleeps plastered to your side. She gets along well with my dogs even my grouchy girl Giggles.
Missy knows sit. She was good in a crate at the vet, but not so good in the crate in the back of the van as she cried in the van where she didn’t at the vet.
Missy likes to go for rides and just be with her person. She is small enough to be a lap dog. She has plenty of energy, but is not bouncing off the ceiling. This is a really great little dog and IF I did not have enough personal dogs, this one would be staying here with me. So... I am looking for a great home for her to lvoe her and treat her like the princess she is.

Here is what Elaine his foster momma has to say about him, QUOTE: He is in a kennel in my living room. He's a big guy, at
least 30 pounds. He is obviously crate trained since he jumped right
into
the crate in the car and again when I got him home. He's quiet right
now,
and didn't make a fuss when my gang went nuts barking at him. I
haven't
introduced him to anyone yet. He's a sweet boingy boy.
I
was
looking at the recent lists of suggested names for other dogs, and
thought
perhaps Moose River Hummer from Donna's list might fit him since
he's so
big, and we could call him Moose. If this is acceptable let me know.

send some additional photos later if I can get him to hold still long
enough
without getting bowled over.

Nicolalas - fostered in MECHANICVILLE, NEW YORK Boston
Adopted
Male Stray at Austin shelter Good Markings - Black and White Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots. Heartworm/Lyme/Erlichia: Negative! Neutered Good with cats? Ok with cats that do not run! Good with children? Not Tested Good with other dogs? Good with all dogs met so far Housetrained? Seems to be trained to the doggie door Cratetrained? yes Special needs: Has luxating patellas
|
More information:
Elaine sez: he walks cramped over with significant muscle tone loss in both hind legs, somewhat underweight, corneal scar, mild tartar. He is a happy, cute as a bug, lively boy. Notes show he is friendly with other dogs and children. He’s doing very well in his crate right now.
Jim Sez: This guy is such a lovable cuss and his wobbly walk only makes him more dear. Thanks to Elaine for fostering him. Bet it was hard to say goodbye to such a sweet soul. She said he was very friendly and playful with other dogs. He does have quite an awkward rear end alignment, but he is now at Doc Cindy's where he will have x-rays and determine what, if anything, can be done to improve him.
He weighs 18.7 lbs and is heart worm negative - YAY! He could use some groceries, but perhaps with his bad patellas, it might be a mercy that he is thin. Darling little bent stubby tail. Nico was so cute. He started out in the booster seat, then sort of hung out on the edge closest to the console, then slowly inched his way onto the console and tried to sit on it, though Velma's is a rather skinny one, so he slid between my hip and the console, facing the back seat, and he seemed to really like that snug position, in which we rode the majority of the trip from Hillsboro to Gainesville. In the last few miles, he kind of worked his butt backward onto my lap, so as we pulled into Doc Cindy's, he was stretched across my lap and starting to snooze.
Wanda's notes: Nico is home with his foster momma Martha. He is now neutered. He has birth defects. His knees are not luxated. They were never in the sockets at all. They are about an inch outside the sockets and the ligaments are all atrophied so can’t be stretched out to put the knees back in the sockets. Dr. Cindy put some major umph on them today while he was sedated trying to move them into place and they just wouldn’t go. She saw no sense in cutting him for something that didn’t look like it would work through outward manipulation first. She took some xrays and is going to send them to a specialist to get an opinion on them to see if there is anything to be done, but she doesn’t think there is. He is just gonna walk funny. At least he is in no pain!
I LOVE HIM! He is a sweet boy. I wanna keep him. Bad wanda Bad bad wanda. He is a young one, about a year old, with bilaterally defunct rear patellas, so he walks pretty sadly. He has no issues with climbing the stairs to the couch or bed. Although Nico sez, I am not one for long walks. I prefer to play inhouse or to lay on a soft pillow. His spirit is very upbeat and he’s a real cutie.
As you can see by the photo of him playing with his foster brother Rowdy that Nico has no idea that he is "special". He thinks he is just a regular Boston and is hoping that someone will see him for the sweetheart he is and give him a forever home.
UPDATE: Martha his foster mom sez, QUOTE: ABTR Foster Nico (aka Nicolalas) has a birth defect that left his knees out of joint. He doesn’t know he is “defective” and plays with abandon. There are only two things I’ve observed that Nico can’t do; he can’t jump up on furniture and he can’t go with you for walks. Since I allow the dogs on furniture I set out some small steps and Nico figured out how to use them to gain access to the couch. Nico walked about ˝ block with us to visit with a neighbor but wasn’t interested in making the walk back. He is perfectly comfortable being carried. I don’t have a stroller so haven’t tried him in that.
Nico is a very lively and enjoys teasing and playing with the other dogs. He is also fairly agile and will occasionally try to get my more sedate/alpha female to play with him be running in and acting like he is going to nip her leg, then he springs back and barks at her when she turns around to chase him.
Nico and Rocky (not Rowdy) play wrestle and tug all the time. This has strengthened Nico’s back legs and he now has some well defined leg muscles. When Nico first got here he had trouble walking/ playing on the laminate floors. Since he has gained strength he seldom slips on the laminate and I’ve been able to pick up the path of extra rugs I laid out for him. Nico will chase a toy when it is thrown but hasn’t grasped the idea of returning it for you to throw again (that is Rocky’s job). When Nico and Rocky play tug of war it sounds like WAR, but it is just play.
Nico is house trained to the doggie door and I’ve not observed any accidents or marking in the house. Nico likes to sleep right next to me in bed and will usually sleep thru the night.
Nico thinks he is an interior decorator and will relocate dog beds, rugs and shoes. I found one of my slippers in the back yard. Don't leave anything that isn't a dog toy down low. Like any young dog, Nico is a little bit mouthy and we are working on that. Nico has learned to sit and wait his turn for treats.
UPDATE 10/16/11 - NICO IS NOW BEING FOSTERED IN MECHANICVILLE NEW YORK for ABTR - here is the update on Nico per the foster parents Jim and Gretchen, QUOTE: We have had Nico for three weeks. He has made tremendous physical progress since being here. He walks 2 miles a day, twice a day, when our schedule allows, and has bundles of energy. He has learned how to do stairs with ease and will jump on and off of the furniture if you let him.
Gretchen has taken him to work and he was overwhelmed with her clients as they tend to be loud and have some physical behaviors that made him nervous. This boy is a real character and has stolen a piece of our hearts. After reading his bio we thought that he would be more of a low key homebody but as his health has improved he seems to get more energy by the day and we are very happy to see his progress.
Nicolalas is one adorable boy with a big personality. He is still very much a puppy. He loves to take long walks and is currently walking two miles a day (twice a day on the weekends). He has a great time playing rough with his Boston Terrier foster brother and just loves to steal all of the toys. He has shown no food or toy aggression but his spirited play needs to be monitored. He walks great on the leash, is crate trained, and house broken. No accidents in the house for this boy! Nico is very smart, learns fast, and is easily motivated by food. We are not sure how he will do with cats but has been great with every dog he has met so far.
Nico has had a complete physical and dental exam and is great health. Nico has some problems with his knees. He was born with patella's not in place but this has not hindered his ability to walk, run, jump, etc. When you watch him walk he looks like John Wayne. He has grown stronger in the weeks has spent with his new foster family. Nico is a great dog looking for his forever home.

More information:
In Louisiana vet being worked on. I have not seen the dog so can't give any more info than this. He was in pain and we got a volunteer to go get him from the shelter and take him to her vet to be treated asap. No pix were taken as volunteer was rushing to get him to a vet there in Louisiana. I will let you know more as I know more. Vet called and told me heartworm neg and gave me estimate of $744.80 for what needs to be done, but could run more expensive depending on what he finds once he gets in there. Other eye is not in good shape either.
I OK'd the surgery for the $744.80. We will need some donations for this old boy. Thank you.
UPDATE FROM LINDA, OLLE's Foster mom, QUOTE: Olle was in a high kill shelter in LA. At 11 yrs old and with his eyes seriously neglected, and in pain, he was in desperate need of help. ABTR did not hesitate to tell me "Go get him." when I called about this dog. He was rushed to a vet and the next day had the painful eye removed, a growth on the other eye removed, dental work and was neutered. His recovery was much faster than I expected. This old man has a love of life and shows his appreciation every day for anything done for him. He will require daily eye medication for the rest of his life. I personally consider it a pleasure to help him with such a simple task. When I get his medication out he sits still and lets me put it in. Never resists or complains. He is such a good dog. I can't stand to think how close he came to death in the gas chamber. What a terrible shame that would have been.
Olle likes other dogs. He plays with our Maltese puppy and the Dachshund too. I have not cat tested him. He is happy and enjoys his food very much. He loves treats and will sit on command. I guess I should be trying to teach him some tricks but to me he is perfect the way he is. No barking or jumping on people or furniture. No chewing up the shoes or remote controls. Just ready to share a chair with you and to look at you with his one eye that says with his expression "I love you." Olle has a lot of spirit and will make a wonderful pet in a quiet home. Thank you ABTR for saving this awesome dog. Someone will be very fortunate to have him share their life.

More information:
This sweet baby girl was one of the Arkansas HSUS Seizure dogs. I have no idea why she is still with me. She is an unusual color and gorgeous!!! Maybe because she is not friendly to all dogs and can be a bit bossy? OR because I said she was afraid, but she has worked out of that over time. Truffles is a very sweet and loving dog to humans. I would really love to get her into a great home before Christmas if possible.
The story can be found here
ARKANSAS HSUS STORY
7/5/10 This one is an unusual reddish brown brindly color. Not a red persay and not a brown either, just an usual in between color. Against the red background you can't see the color that good. I should have used blue. As you can see she too has been bred to death. Her behind is naked and has a lot of hair loss. The shelter labled her aggressive and the vet labled her very sweet and hasn't seen any dog aggression in her. I got her in the kitchen with several of the laid back dogs and she is doing fine. She wants to be friends, but she is a bit scared. Orange Truffle Mocha 17.7 lbs is heartworm negative and needs to be spayed. She was scared too. But did pretty good. She was more Please save me and shaking. Is now up to date with shots. I will know more about her fecals and skin tests next week.
UPDATE: 8/28/2010 - THis little girl went into heat so was unable to be spayed last week. I am planning on spaying her the week of September 6th. She was heartworm negative and will be ready to go when she is spayed. We ARE taking apps on her now!
UPDATE: 11/20/10 - Truffles is a precious girl who is looking for a great home to love her. Her hair has grown back in and she is looking good. She wants so much to please. She will rear up against you to get loves and is no longer the scared little girl we picked up from Arkansas. This dog has great potential to be a wonderful dog if we can get her inte with someone willing to train her as she wants desparately to please her people. Are you that person?

More information:
Oscar is a beautiful, extremely intelligent 4.5 year old male black & white Boston Terrier with extremely good markings and structure. His owners had to surrender him due to their growing family, and fear that they would not be able to give him the attention that he so deserves. Oscar is a pure bred Boston Terrier, and fully registered with the AKC. He is completely up-to-date on all of his shots, current on his flea & tick medicine, is already neutered, and is an all around healthy dog. Oscar does have a tendency to eat and drink very fast, which sometimes comes back up if he is not given time to let it digest. His favorite treat are ice cubes, which comes in pretty handy!
Oscar is great with babies/children and other dogs/cats that he has come in contact with to-date, has never bitten anyone, and is completely house and crate trained. He understands the simple commands of sit, here, stay, fetch, and heel (although may not always prove to you that he does) and is also good on the leash. Oscar is an indoor dog, but does love to spend time outside as well (make sure it's not too hot and that he has plenty of water). As with any Boston, he is full of a lot of energy and absolutely loves to play (with people, other animals, toys, etc.). Oscar is not at all timid, and loves other dogs that can keep up with him. Once he has that out of his system, he will cuddle up on the couch next to you, without moving, for as long as you'll let him – best of both worlds.
Wanda's notes: Oscar's owner who loves this dog has agreed to foster Oscar until we can find him a good home which shouldn't take too long as this boy is everything that a Boston should be as well as has never known anything but love. Whoever decides to adopt Oscar will get a really good dog who is already a well adjusted boy. The owner did the write up for me. It didn't all fit in my spaces so I just copied the whole thing so you could see everything about the boy.

This sweet baby boy was dumped at the shelter because the owner was moving. He is a GORGEOUS boy who has a very shiny black coat and is not skinny so he was well taken care of.
This boy has the most beautiful face. He is slightly wall eyed, but that just adds to his charming looks. Jon has those tippy forward ears that give him an inquisitive look. This is one of the cutest little boston faces I have seen in a while.
Jon is a sweet heart who loves people and is very happy to see them. Sometimes a little too happy as he is a submissive pee'er. But that can be worked with and will go away as he gets older as I have had a few that did that in the past and with my training and getting older, they got over it.
He is quiet in his crate. He is good with all the other dogs here. Jon is a sweet baby who just needs some understanding and love. Can you give him that love and understanding?

More information:
When I was doing my Little Rock run, I got a call from my friend Roie who had gotten a call from the Pulaski Arkansas Animal shelter asking her to take an owner surrender because they were full and the dog would be euthanized if the owner brought it in to them. The shelter was told it was an albino Boston.
Luckily I was still in Little Rock and I called and made arrangements with the lady for her to bring the dog to me. He is her mothers dog and her mother has alzheimers and since the mother can't remember to take the dog out for walks etc then it was too much trouble for the family to take over those duties on top of caring for the mother. So she brought him to me. I had driven all night, it was freezing cold and my heater in the van was out and I was tired, so I don't remember what the lady told me the dogs name was.
Here is the information the owner emailed to me in response to my questions after I got home:
Wanda I can not find any paperwork on Gilbert but here's info on him:
-Albino Boston Terrier
-Born in 2001.
-One owner since 2002.
-Has some seasonal allergies.
-Not current w/ shots.
-House trained to the doggie door.
-Good watchdog - w/ strangers to the home, he will bark.
-Kids - he can get grumpy if he's over-petted by kids. Licks in the face a lot if you're down low.
-Sleeping - will sleep w/ you and snuggle way under covers if allowed.
-Has been eating Beneful dog food
-Will walk on a leash, but he tends to take the owner on a walk
End of message.
I imagine part of his allergy problems is the beneful dog food as that is nothing but grains and we know the Bostons have a lot of issues with grain in their diet. Right now, he is scared spitless and keeping out of my way. I am sure after being the only dog all his life that coming into the doggie madhouse is very stressful on him. So we will give him some time to get used to it here before I try and catch him to take him to the vet to get him updated on shots etc. I imagine in a week or 2 he will be friendly as can be once he has figured out he is not gonna be hurt around here.

More information:
This sweet baby boy has lived his whole life at a breeders facility. I am not sure why the breeder got rid of this boy other than he is terrified of people. He is not even year old until next month.
Panther is a small happy little boy who wants to be friends, but is afraid. We are making progress with him, but he will need time and lots of TLC to come around. He is not snappy, just hunkers down and runs away from you.
Panther needs all the normal training you would give a puppy like sit, stay etc. This baby is a sweet dog who needs someone to show him that people are NOT monsters and not to be afraid as they will love him.

More information:
This sweet baby girl has been used as a breeding machine for profit for almost all her life. The breeder got rid of her because she was not producing puppies as fast as she was being bred.
Tutu is a small happy little girl who wants to be friends. She is not the typical shy puppymill dog. She is a bit timid and hunkers down, but her little butt is just a wagging and she WANTS to get some attention.
She needs all the normal training you would give a puppy like sit, stay etc. She is a cuddler and just loves to be loved on. This baby is a sweet girl who needs someone to show her that having puppies is not the be all and end all of her existence.
We still need to vet her and may have a possible adopter for her already.

PINWINNIE ROYAL Boston
Adopted
Female Weight: 25.6 Age: 9 years OS at the Lafayette Louisiana Shelter Good Markings Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots. Heartworm/Lyme/Erlichia: Positive - Started treatment 9/21 and will be available for adoption on 10/21 Spayed Good with children? Not Tested Housetrained? seems to be to a crate Cratetrained? Yes Special needs: Cataracts
|
More information:
This is what Linda has to say about Pinwinnie, QUOTE: Her name is Molly and she is 9 plus years old. I was told she was healthy by the LACC vet. She did say she has cataracts, but I don't think they are advanced because her eyes look clear. HEr vision seems ok.
She gets along with other dogs and is very good with the adult humans that I have seen her with. She is very calm and accepts whatever you want of her.
I was told her owner could no longer have an "outside" dog at her residence so whe brought her into the LACC. I guess 9 years of devotion was not enough to earn her a place inside the house. LACC is a high kill shelter!
Her owner stated she did have an incident where she snapped at (DID NOT BITE) a child that grabbed her. That was 4 years ago. There is no other incident of aggression in her lifetime.
She is crate trained and doesn't complain in her crate. Maybe that is because she likes being indoors. She can hold herself from 8-10 hours in the crate. She did that at LACC. She never soiled her kennel.
She is a very sweet girl who very much deserves to have the last years of her life spent with someone who loves and respects her.

NO, its a PUPPY! Cratetrained? NO, its a PUPPY! Special needs: Emaciated and Cherry eye to be fixed
|
More information:
Emaciated puppy has cherry eye, hopefully will have enough weight on him after the new year to be neutered aIf you don't want to housebreak a dog, take it to training classes or deal with pee, poop, puke, chewing, biting or any of the other things puppies do during puppyhood, then don't bother to apply for the puppy. Puppies need more time and attention their 1st year than adult dogs do. You need to be willing to invest your time and attention on this puppy before I will adopt him to you. Puppies are a lot of committment and work on your part. The more effort you put into trainging a puppy the better dog you will have. nd have eye fixed.

Ridley Boston
Adopted
Male Weight: 18.2 Age: 1-2 years Stray at Baton Rouge Louisiana shelter Mismarked - Half white faced Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots. Heartworm/Lyme/Erlichia: Positive and will be treated before adoption Neutered Good with cats? OK and shows no interest in the cats Good with children? Not Tested Good with other dogs? Good with all dogs met so far Housetrained? seems to be if taken out frequently Cratetrained? yes Special needs: Just the Cherry eyes as he had really severe cherry eyes
|
More information:
Here is what Rachel has to say about Ridley, QUOTE: attached are pictures of the new guy I picked up yesterday from Dr. Fairchild at the East Baton Rouge Parish Animal Control Center.
He is young (she estimated under 2 yrs of age), heartworm +, unaltered, with bilateral cherry eyes.
He is very sweet and a very good boy. He is minding his manners for the most part and loves rolling and scratching his back on the rug. After his bath, he moaned the entire time he got dried off because it just felt so good I guess.
He is sleeping in the kennel without a peep and I expect he'll make someone a great dog. He knows sit, so he must have been someone's pet before ending up in prison and I just can't imagine his people not looking for him. End of QUOTE
Jim's note: Ridley is a very laid back, sweet boy, two cherry eyes. He was a quiet and relaxed copilot
who snoozed the entire way. I had no paperwork on him, so no
clue as to his provenance, age or health history. He weighs 18 lbs.
Wanda's note: Ridley had some severe cherry eyes. Dr. Cindy had to work on them for a while to get them situated. We are putting meds in as they swole up really bad after surgery. They are looking better now, but still need improvement.
This is an extremely nice boy. He loves attention. He is submissive to the other dogs so the more dominant ones pick on him. So we have him in the kitchen with the itty bitties right now. He gets along with all the other dogs even when they are picking on him, he doesn't try to protect himself. He needs to go in with dogs that are not overly dominant so he is not overwhelmed by them picking on him. I want him to have a loved life, not one that he is being terrorized by a dog that has never known anything but love.
Ridley is a very easy foster and he can stay here as long as it takes me to find just the right home for him. He is good with the cats and we let him go out in the car yard with us where the outside cats are. He pretty much ignores the cats and go does his business. He comes when we call. I really like this boy. I know when I find him a new family that they will love him a lot.

Heartworm/Lyme/Erlichia: Not tested yet Spayed Good with cats? Not Tested Good with children? Not Tested Good with other dogs? Good with all dogs met so far Housetrained? Seems to be trained to the Doggie door! Cratetrained? yes Special needs: None have been determined at this time.
|
More information:
This was someone's baby! She had her toenails painted pink! So she probably had a girl child who loved her. I am surprised no one looked for her at the shelter. I named her Rosarita as she just looks like a Rosa to me.
This poor girl has got a severe case of Kennel cough probalby from not having the KC vaccine and being exposed at the shelter. I estimate that it will probalby be a couple of weeks before she is well enough to adopt out. Gotta get rid of that cough, but I am estimating that she will be ready to go by October 15th if she is not heartworm positive when we take her to the vet next week.
Rosa love attention and seems to be a really nice dog. right now the cough is bothering her so I can't give you a lot of information.
She has been well cared for and loved as she is well fed and those pink toenails attest to it. This one will find a home fast as she is a lovely girl.

Rusty Spike Boston
Adopted
Male Weight: 23 lbs Age: 12 - 18 months old Stray at Louisiana Shelter Good Markings Red and White with Haggerty Spot Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots. Heartworm/Lyme/Erlichia: Negative!!! Neutered Good with cats? Not Tested Good with children? Not Tested Good with other dogs? Good with all dogs met so far Housetrained? Working on it Cratetrained? working on it Special needs: Possible old leg injury
|
More information:
Got a note from Linda in Louisiana saying, QUOTE: Look at what I just did! He is 23lbs, unaltered, 12- 18 months old, has hooks & whips but have Panacur for him, has a back left leg that was lame when he went into the shelter 5/26. Vet said he has improved with confinement. I see only a slight odd movement when he walks. He does walk with that leg with no complaint. BUT a dog with any problem the shelter is unable to fix easily, is in danger. They have no Xray machine but Vet said she palpated the leg and does not think anything is broken. He let her do exam and no complaint. He bears weight on it and does not cry so thinking maybe a pulled ligament or muscle. He could have been tapped by a car. He was a stray. As I said, I tried to get you and was just scared not to take him. I could not stand to think of this handsome boy going down. HE IS HEART WORM NEGATIVE! The vet tested him for me.
Donna, Rusty's foster mom has this to say about him, QUOTE: Rusty is a happy go lucky youngster. He gets along with my Doberman and 2 Bostons and loves playing bitey-face and wrestling with everyone. Even my grouchy old Boston does not mind him too much. He doesn't like to be bothered and Rusty doesn't annoy him.
Rusty is a beautiful dog and his personality is every bit as beautiful. He is very loving and enjoys being with his people. He is submissive to the other dogs. Every time the door opens he runs to the door and barks to make sure people know he's guarding the house.
He has no problems with the doggie door, but isn't housetrained yet. He has been marking but he is not neutered yet, and that may stop when he gets neutered. I think he will be easy to house train, but it is obvious he has not been trained at all. We are working on sit and stay with him, and on the house training.
It does look like he was hit by a car or something because he has some scarring on one of his back legs and his rear end does not seem quite right. However, it doesn't stop him from walking or running or whatever he wants to do. We will see what Dr. Cindy says about that, however anyone who adopts him needs to be prepared for arthritis problems as he ages.
If it were just up to me, Rusty would be home right now.

Adopted
Male Weight: 15.2 lbs Age: 1-2 years Stray at East Baton Rouge Louisiana Shelter Mis-marked - 1/2 while faced Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots. Heartworm/Lyme/Erlichia: Positive - began treatment11/17/09 and should be ready to go 12/17/09 Neutered Good with cats? OK and shows no interest in the cats Good with children? Not Tested Good with other dogs? Good with all dogs met so far Housetrained? working on it Cratetrained? yes Special needs: None
|
More information:
This is what Rachel who picked Willie up has to say about him, Quote: Willy is in the house! He is SKINNY (see attached pics) and heartworm positive. He is over the snots and is very quick and likes being outside. Knows a little about toys, is mouthy, Not aggressive like, just interested in you.
He is confused, but doing ok. I fed him a small meal, didn't want to overload his little frame. He picked at it but finally ate it. I like him!
End of Quote
This is what Nancy who temp fostered Willie on his travels up to me has to say about Willie, QUOTE: tonight my heart is heavy because Saltwater Willy has left us and is now on his way to Gainesville, Texas with Maryanne.
Wanda, let me just tell you that you are going to love this sweet little
fellow. I estimate him to be maybe a year old. He still has some puppy behaviors that will need some work and training but he so wants to please that I expect his training to go quickly. He marked once or twice shortly after his arrival and then was perfectly well behaved in that respect for the rest of his short visit with us.
Willy got along very well with my crew, even my crazy cat. He eats great and appears to have a cast iron digestive tract, something I really love in a Boston. He digested all of his food beautifully with nice solid poops.
He crates well. At night we did crate him and never heard a peep out of him.
This little fellow was an absolute joy and I already miss him so much. The saving grace here is that I know that he will be treated for heartworms, well cared for and every effort will be made for him to find the perfect home. I also know that he will make some family a wonderful pet. He will be loved and will return that love and he should
enjoy many years as a loving member of someone's household.
I do love my volunteer work for ABTR. Handling transports really is fun once you get the legs of the transport worked out. Fostering for the short term is also fun but it is so hard to let them go, especially when you have one that just yanks on your heartstrings. Willy did that to me. Wanda, please give him a kiss for me. He is already missed. End of Quote
Wanda's notes; Willie is a sweet little boy who needs a whole lot of groceries as he is very skinny. We have started his heartworm treatment. This boy is very loving and playful. He has been good with all the cats and dogs he has met here. Willie is very special and is looking for someone who will see that in him.

This girl is a good girl and obviously has been well cared for. I couldn't believe an owner did not show up to reclaim her. This little girl had a microchip that someone did NOT bother to register. I checked several registries, but no registration.
PEOPLE!!! I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH.... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE REGISTER YOUR MICROCHIPS when you adopt a dog from me. I don't want them accidentally lost and no on able to find their owners.
This is gross, but she had a couple of what we thought were abcesses, but turned out to be that cattle worm, warble, bot, or whatever you want to call it in her side. When Dr. Cindy was examining the area she pressed on it to see how bad it was and this worm came out of her side. IT was DISGUSTING as it looked like one of those white grub things with a black head you see in the ground when you are gardening! She came from an area that has lots of cattle and reading up on this fly, she could have picked it up walking through grass, the fly eggs or whatevers being on the grass and then she licking that area that they attached to and ingesting them. Dr. Cindy says she hasn't seen one in 20 years, and she has NEVER seen one in a Boston before. We are taking care of it with doses of ivermectin. Ewwww! Can you tell I don't like worms?
More to come.

As you know we are full as can be and as soon as I get one out I have one waiting lately.
BUT…
Janet called me this morning just a week before Christmas about this little 13 year old man Boston that had been dumped by his family in the shelter because they are moving. ARRRRRGGGHHHH!!!! (yeah right, I imagine they were getting a puppy for xmas and didn't want the old dog there any more, but you know me I am jaded and have a poor opinion of people like these after all the years I have seen this stuff).
When I saw the pix of his little face in the shelter, there was NO WAY I could leave him there! Look at that guy! He looks like he has given up hope. I put the pix to the left side of the screen. Now tell me, after seeing that pix, could you leave the old man in the shelter? Neither could I and that is why he came home with me and spent xmas as my house.
I REALLY HATE THESE PEOPLE RIGHT NOW!!! Here is my rant... I hope that the folks who dumped this wonderful old dog live long enough to learn what it is to be dumped in a strange, cold, unloving place in your old age!!!!
Luckily for Spanky, his little face spoke to one of my wonderful adopters who loves the old dogs, so as soon as he gets over the snots and has his lumps and bumps taken off, his dental and some bloodwork, then he will be going to his new home in Utah to be with Tandy and Jack her other 2 dogs she adopted from me. This boy has hit the jackpot in finding a wonderful home to live out the rest of his old age. Thank you Janice for seeing what a great dog Spanky is and looking past the age to the dog himself.

More information:
She was an owner surrender that we took due to the
circumstances. Her mom is in the hospital dying of cancer. Her
Dad is elderly and very frail looking when I met him. Mr. Martin
doesn’t want her left in her crate all day and all night while he is
attending to his wife. So… he turned to us to find her a new
home.
Cookie is a year old tomorrow on Feb 20. She is AKC registered.
Cookie is a Gorgeous dog who is in very good shape. She is about
20 lbs, black and white. This little girl has never known a day of
want in her life. She is well adjusted, happy and very loving. She
does need a bit more work on obedience, but she is a good girl
who wants to please. The owner says she is paper trained in the
house, but needs a bit more work to be fully housebroken. She is
crate trained. Cookie has never been around children just older
people, but I am sure she would be adaptable to kids over 6 years
old if they were calm children. She wasn’t ever around dogs
either, but other than a bit of nervousness, she is handling the
dogs well here.
This is a dog that should never have ended up in a rescue. She
should have a wonderful family who loves her and spoils her. I
promised Mr. Martin that I would find Cookie a great home. So
here is our sweet Cookie.

We did a skin scrape and it is demodex. She's very sweet too. I know you guys are covered up, but it is raining Bostons this month!! END OF QUOTE
I took her, did you think I wouldn't? You know I have a soft spot for the demo babies. They aren't contagious, just look and feel real bad. But don't tell Swizzle that cause she doesn't know she feels bad or looks bad either.
Swizzle is one sweet and loving girl and when we get her hair fixed she will knock your socks off with her beauty. This girl is pretty on the inside too, she is loving and happy and just the nicest Boston you could ever meet.

|
More information:
Gang,
This is a name I culled from one of Wanda's lengthy lists that I
kept my faves for future pulls, and TIDBIT fits this tiny guy to a "T".
He is 11 lbs, and alleged to be 5 years old!
Barbara's daughter Brittany (Britney?) met me at the Tyler Cracker
Barrel and handed off this gorgeous little bundle to me. Barbara was
right - he is tempting all my foster flunkie instincts, though I will find
the strength to turn him over - at least at some point in the future...
He really looks more like a starved puppy who's had a rough life,
but I guess he's a middle-aged adult.
Very skinny and bony, with ribs protruding, wasp waist and
bony butt. He desperately needs some groceries.
I gave him a Capstar, even though I saw no visible fleas or ticks on him.
He does have a small boo-boo on his upper lip/cheek area, and his hair
is rather thin, dandruffy and lackluster. His right eye has some brown, blood-shot looking stuff around the cornea, though his left eye is white
and clear.
He has spit up 4 times since being here, which may (hopefully) just
be from the excitement, though he doesn't appear at all stressed or
anxious. He adapted immediately to all 6 Furkids, who must've seemed
like giants to him - even tiny Tootsie towers over him.
I gave him a few forkfuls of Blue Buffalo Wilderness Turkey/Chicken and
some Avoderm, which he ate heartily, though he did have a foamy spittle
spit up about an hour later.
He did NOT enjoy the bath experience and tried valiantly to climb out of
any side of the kitchen sink he could manage. He did of course revel in
the towelling off session and cuddling, wrapped up in a warm towel. I
bathed him in a medicated shampoo that is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal
and anti-seborrheic. He was itching a bit before bathing, but I haven't
seen him doing so since.
I tried to clean his ears, but he squiggled around in my lap and tried to
burrow into my clothing and then got under a throw and snoozed, so
I didn't pester him anymore, but will check them later. His nails appear
to have been fairly recently clipped.
Wanda, I would like to keep him FOR AWHILE, just to fatten him up some
with my magic Satin Ball recipe. I'll do smaller meals more frequently throughout the day. The fact that he's so skinny would of course lead me to suspect worms of one sort or another.
Just noticed he is NOT housetrained ;-). He piddled in the office and pooped
on the master bedroom rug, even though he has been outside 3 times already
and sniffed virtually everything indoors and outdoors (without marking). At least it was a nice firm one, amazingly large for his size... (enough poop talk)
Here are some photos - you can see why I'm smitten, though I PROMISE
I'm not tempted to keep him, I just want to see him get a good healthy start.

Tipple's Story
I am working on her webpage with photos so the link might not work yet. It may take me another week to get her page done with photos.
We have been working with her to save her leg. You can only cut a leg off once and the dog has to live with it the rest of their lives. We still do not know if we will need to ampuate the leg so she may be in for another surgery. She has already had a couple of surgeries, pins inserted and lots of xrays, and rewraps. If you can find it in your heart to help us pay her huge vet bill, we sure would appreciate it. She is one of my very expensive rescues, but she is worth it. Just look at that face! Don't she melt your heart? She did mine.

Neutered Good with cats? OK and shows no interest in the cats Good with children? Not Tested Good with other dogs? Good with all dogs met so far Housetrained? Working on it! More information:
Here is the darling boy from Mansfield - you can't tell in these two
bad photos, but he is just a perfect example of a Boston. Nice
ears that do stand up (when he's not under the lens), a Haggerty
spot, nice markings, perfect size and a small twisty tail.
I asked Marilyn about his provinance, and she said he was an OS
who just "couldn't care for him anymore"... I cannot fathom how
anyone could dump such a sweet, cute guy to a certain death for
no reason. So now we have our new cute guy saved from the jaws of death!
Jim
Wanda's notes: This is a BEAUTIFUL dog on the inside as well as the outside. He is energetic, loving, friendly, gets along well with the other dogs and not really interested in the cats. What more could you want? This is a great dog and someone should adopt him fairly quickly.

Jim's notes on Tommy, QUOTE: then I met Elaine at the Fort Worth Animal
Control where she traded me Mistico Bandito for our cute new boy
who came with the name Bullet, but I'm certain Wanda has already
christened him with a new and better name by now, although he certainly
could be faster than a speeding bullet if let loose - he lunges on the
leash and collar so badly, and has very bad reverse sneezing and nasal
discharge. Fortunately, when I met Martha in Mesquite, she had a
harness that fit him, so it should be easier on him when lurching forward
and not choking him until he learns how to take a walkie properly.
He has the cutest squiggle tail, and a very shiny coat, that has a few
hints of brindle when in full sun. It was hard to capture him with ears
up, but they are very cute when he has them in full upright position.
Don't have a clue as to his provenance, age, weight or health, but he
is from the Waco Shelter. END OF QUOTE
'
Update from Martha Tommy's foster mom10/8/10 - Hi, this is one sweet, loving, ready to give kisses and be petted, and energetic boy. It took about 30 minutes and the dogs have pretty much worked out that the pack order is Ginger, Bud and ... Tommy. If he doesn't already have a name Wanda, can we call him Tommy Latta
Tommy, knows 'sit' and 'go to bed' he popped out the doggie door right behind Ginger so I expect he'll know that before the day is over. He did try to mark the couch but quickly stopped when I shouted 'AyeAye'. He spat out (or dropped) all the treats, took them into his mouth but dropped them. He walked through the swimming pool but didn't play in it.
Tommy ate up a bowl of Buffalo Chips (TOTW) mixed with turkey stew, and didn't try to butt in to Buddy's bowl like Ginger does, he kept a respectful distance. He has good Kitchen manners and kept out from under my feet when I cooked something for me and hasn't pestered me for my plate either. He responds instantly to any attention and gave me some wonderful belly earlier. He also stayed when I asked him to so I could grab the camera and get a photo of him belly up. He is going to make some family really happy. He did mark in the kitchen (love clorix wipes) when I wasn't looking.
I took Tommy (aka Bullet) with us on our walk this evening. He did fairly well, pulled about as much as Ginger does. There was some leash braiding as they traded sides back and forth but went well. We visited with the neighbor children - ages 5-11 - then later met a young boy - age 3 who wanted to pet, I held Tommy back afraid he might jump on the boy but he did very well. Bud and Ginger just ignore children like they can't see them, but Tommy sat down and let the little guy pat his back. He did give him a little face wash... but it is hard for a guy to resist a face sooooo close. We also stopped and spent some time visiting with my neighbor Jim (he took care of the dogs when I was out of town) and Tommy took to him too. He does want to play LOTS and my grumpy two don't want to play. If I was keeping him any longer I'd take him down to Jim's once a day for a play date with his young Jack Russell.
Tommy is now sleeping on the couch... Even though I'm sure he didn't get enough exercise (have to go slow for Bud) he knows how to settle down.
Martha
P.S. He is now using the doggie door on his own. But still needs to be monitored for marking in the house.

More information:
I got a call from a fellow rescue friend of mine Sharal that we worked with in the past. She told me Kendall County animal shelter asked her to find some help for about 6-11 Bostons coming in from a Breeder who died. Told her I would take all of them. While we were working on rescuing these dogs, a non-Boston rescue group came in and pulled 7 of the dogs, then went back and pulled the other 4 they had left in the shelter. This group placed all the Bostons except 4 of them which they agreed for us to take. We made arrangements for transport as Kendall county is way down there west of Austin. So we now have these 4 babies that need vet care. The male is heartworm positive and will be treated before adoption. Two of the females have mammary tumors from being bred so much. And the other one is very timid.
I think that Breeze is the oldest of the dogs, but she is my favorite of the girls. Breeze is more outgoing and more likely to want pets and come up for them. She is a sweet thing. She has been bred a lot as you can see by her droopy mammaries. Poor baby.
Breeze is a happy girl who seems to adapt well to changes. She is very soft. Her hair is very thin as well so we will do a skin scrape and see if anything is going on there. I imagine that she needs good food and love to thicken that hair back out.
Breeze may not be a youngster, but she is young at heart. She is a happy dog who wants to be loved. I am hoping that she will find a perfect home soon.

More information:
I got a call about a little Boston mix from a shelter who told me she had puppies the day before and if they couldn't find a rescue for her and her babies that she would be put down that afternoon. Naturally, I have to go and see her to see if she is Bostony enough for me to pull. When I got back to her kennel, the ACO walked in and handled her puppies and she just wagged her tail and acted real friendly. The puppies look very Bostony. The momma so so, but I couldn't leave her in there to die when she was so friendly, so I made the decision to go ahead and pull this little family as Casey had volunteered to foster them for me. HEr puppies were born on 12/7/09 so she won't be ready to go until Early february.
Here is what her foster mom Casey has to say about Trixie, QUOTE: True Trixie has lived with me for a week, and she is a doll. I truly believe she was someone's pet before, because she has such lovely manners! She is housetrained, is using the doggie door, takes treats like a lady, and knows not to jump up. She is a snuggler, and loves to sit next to me on the couch. She is lying next to me with her head on my leg. She loves to cuddle! She is not a big barker. She has never barked indoors, but barks occasionally outside. She is a great momma to her puppies, but likes being with people the best. She is very healthy, heartworm negative, good looking teeth, and a soft, shiny coat. Her ears are adorable, and I do like her tail with the white tip. Miss True Trixie will be a great family pet!

More information:
The shelter says that he is a sweet dog. He came from a family with small kids and he was good with them. He does NOT like lawnmowers.
Wanda's notes: Moose has been very loving to me. He is a big boy, but is a gentle one. When you are using a lawnmower, he needs to be put in the house before you turn it on, so he cannot get out to injure himself on the lawnmower. Moose knows how to sit for a treat. More information:
Here is what Jim has to say about Violetta. Quote: As usual, got a call from Wanda saying there's a Boston
girl at Dallas Animal Services who is heartworm positive
so not adoptable. The dog turned out to be a BUG, brindle and long, long tail,
but the cutest little Bostie/Puggie face with the pug flop ears.
She's a real sweetheart and loves to kiss and cuddle. There is
a series of boo-boos around her hind end, so it looks like she
was in a tussle with someone or something awhile ago.
Only was able to get 2 snaps of her - always bouncing around, but
in one you can see her face and body clearly, and that monkey
tail in the other shot.
Wanda's note: Letty was a bit scared of all the Bostons here at first, but by second day she was interacting and running around like she had been here forever. This is a sweet girl who looks like a Big dog bit her on the hiney so she has 2 bald spots there where the scabs have come off. Whoever adopts her is gonna be real happy with her.

More information:
Ginger at Fort Worth contacted us to take a little fellow with a UTI. He was too cute to refuse.
Jim sez, quote: Gang, This guy is a total love-bug and will jump up and kiss/greet anyone he encounters.
This boy is BIG, although he looks cute and small in photos. There is some hair loss and looks like perhaps he had some flea allergic reaction along his withers and back, though it's not a bad case.
Once on a quality diet and with some supplements, he will be stone cold gorgeous! He is still intact, but the shelter couldn't neuter him when he was sick. Not sure about age - probably young adult.
He decided to mimic me and sat up in the captain's chair behind me and watched traffic going by - I felt like I was Driving Miss Daisy! The photos should speak for themselves. END OF QUOTE
Wanda's notes: This is a darling guy and will make someone a great pet. He has a slight case of demodex which we are treating. He also had a Urinary tract infection which we have treated as well.
Boozie as I call him, is crate trained and doesn't bark or make a mess in his crate. He goes outside like a pro whether he is in the doggie door area or enclosed in the kitchen. Someone loved this dog and trained him to potty outside like a good boy. I don't know why they didn't come looking for him.
He is good with all the other dogs and doesn't chase the outside cats either. Boozie will make a great dog for someone who is looking for a love monster who likes to give you lots and lots of kisses.

More information:
This old boy was a stray at a Fort Worth Shelter. No one came looking for him. He is an older fellow that had cataracts and old eye injuries so he didn't see too well when I got him. He managed to walk into something and bust his eye that he could see slightly out of. So we had to remove it.
Whiskey seems to be doing fine getting around in his area. Most blind dogs adopt much better than the humans do.
He is good with the other dogs. When you talk to him, he heads towards you and then stands up on his hind legs so you can pick him up and love on him.
Whiskey loves his lovins. He loves his treats too. Whiskey is a quiet guy who just wants a lap to lay on, some good food for his belly and someone to love. I am hoping that someone will give this boy a wonderful home for hte rest of his life.

ZOCOLO Boston
Adopted
Male Age: 1-2 years Stray at San Angelo Texas shelter Good Markings - Black and White Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots. Neutered Good with cats? Not Tested Good with children? Not Tested Good with other dogs? Good with all dogs met so far Housetrained? Working on it Cratetrained? Yes Special needs: HYPOSPADIAS - Deformed urinary and anal area
|
More information:
This boy was a stray so I have no history on him. He is a very sweet boy. Gets along well with the other dogs even my in your face dogs. He is young and wants to please you. This boy has the potential to be a great dog if someone takes the time to work with him and take him to obedience classes. He is not bouncing off the walls, but not laid back either. I think he is a nice comfortable level of energy.
He does have a plumbing issue (Hypospadias). During his in utero developement the urinary fold did not develop right and did not close up. So his penis was hanging out as the sheath was not enclosed. It was open all the way round to the anus which means he has a deformed anus and we have removed the nonfunctional penis and closed up the penile sheath. He seems to hold in the poop ok with his anus being a little different. He is urinating from a hole under the rectum so don't stand behind him when he has to go pee.
So he is able to potty fairly normally, the pee just doesn't come out where it should. This should not be major issue for someone who wants a special baby to love.
Zocolo is a very happy and loving boy and I know that someone is gonna think he is the most wonderful dog in the world dispite being plumbed a little on the strange side. Give him a chance, you never know, he might be your heart and soul dog.

More information:
This is what my volunteer LeighAnn had to say about Zoe, QUOTE:
I picked this frosty girl up at Azle today. She's supposed to be
8 years old. Her elderly momma died and her grown kids didn't want her.
Um...What?
Anyway.... She was labeled as dog aggressive and I think that's
Wrong! They put her in a cage with an in heat Pomeranian and after a little
bit, they no longer got along. Then she was put in with a larger male and larger female
dog. She really didn't care about them. The female got in her
face (a lot) and she snapped, but I do too if you get in my face.
I think she's great!!!!
I heard her raspy old bark when I pulled up. I do love a gray
haired oldster. She was not in my face affectionate, but
she liked me.
She had a little blood in her urine, but I'm sure it is a
urinary tract infection which will clear up in no time.
She did great in car and kennel and LOVES the car. I really like her. I offered her a
treat and her hiney hit the floor the second I said sit. Did I mention that I really like her.
She's an easy going old lady. I think she's cool! She knows her name is Zoe. End of QUOTE.
Wanda’s note: That person’s kids let go a really great dog. Idiots! She seems to be housebroken. Zoe does have a raspy deep bark which is startling coming out of a girl. She wants to be with her person and will bark at you if you leave her on the other side of the doggie gate.
Zoe is perfectly fine running loose with all my dogs and I haven’t had an issue other than one young whippersnapper getting in her face. She told him to back off and he did. So no problems there. She would be a great dog for an older person looking for a good companion. She can stay with me as long as she likes as she is a good foster dog! I hope that someone will see past the frost on her face to see the wonderful dog that is within her.
UPDATE 11/27/10 per Lisa Zoey's foster momma: Zoe’s a “sweet thang” – at the end of Week 1, she has had only 1 accident in the house and that was early this week when I was at work. She’s used to being with her person all the time, so she is not happy when I leave for work, but not destructive and seems to be adjusting to the routine. She has free run of the house since she was knocking down the baby gate anyway so I just removed it so she wouldn’t hurt herself. A great snuggler, she curls right up in bed at night with me and Copper. After the initial big woof by Copper, they hang together, race out to the yard, chase squirrels and look for critters. She loves cow hooves to chew on, as well as the Virbec dental chews, and a good tug of war. Zoe did well at doggie daycare on Friday – loves to ride in the car – I swear she’d try to get in any car with a door open if she could! We’re working on leash training; I don’t think she went for many walks. I do have to watch that she doesn’t run out the door, but she is getting better. She might be a little hard of hearing, OR she may have BT “selective hearing”, but other than “sit” I don’t think she was taught commands. Her person did take care of her tho – Zoe seems healthy and happy; I think she was a little confused at first about where she was and why she was here. One thing that was a really nice surprise is that she takes even the smallest piece of food very daintily from your fingers. She was good for her bath, ear cleaning and nail trim (a Trifecta!!) I haven’t kid-tested her, but can do that – I’m not expecting that to be a problem. Well-behaved, loving and gentle, Zoe will make someone very happy.
Lisa

More information:
I got a email plea to take this little one. The email said, QUOTE: We have a boston terrier dog that needs placement. She is almost all black with 4 barely white paws, white chest, small white stripe on nose and behind her head.
She is 3.5 yrs old and is very small (12lbs or so). She is current on all shots and tested heartworm negative in July 2009 and is currently taking preventative. She has not been spayed nor has she had any puppies. She has been keep indoor most of the time. Our family is separating and she needs immediate placement. Please contact me asap if you can help! I will forward pictures. .. She is hard to get a good picture of her. She is a sweet girl and loves her people. End of QUote
Even though we concentrate on shelter dogs who are about to be euthanized, when I saw her little face, I had to take her. Zoe is a precious little girl. She was thin when we got her, then she caught kennel cough and lost weight she didn't have to loose, but she has gained it back and is looking good now.
Zoe is very loving and she is a lap baby. I think she would do well in a quiet environment with an older person or couple. I will be very picky where this one goes as I have gotten very attached to her. Zoe is a precious girl and I am looking for someone special for her.
